:lol :lol :lol Lol. Too funny!

Currently, there are 3 particularly annoying trolls on this forum and unfortunately I've resorted to the ignore feature.

If you don't feed the trolls, they eventually go away. Like rats. :yes

Or multiply. On the startrek.com forum there were these guys and they called themselves werf with slight differences in the name of course. The more we ignored them the worse they got. One day though, I decided to encourage them. That did it. They lost interest.

Yes we have our share of trolls here, it makes me sick sometimes, not only that but you all can't see it, but we get porno promotions, people trying to promote transvestite sites, you name it, but we can see all new people before regular members can, which is a good thing.

Lewis, it's good that the mods can see the difference between genuine trolling and those who merely share their differences in opinion.

Yup, I had to delete some porn stuff this morning, and they are banned for life. We also get Viagra promotions, you name it we get it, and I and the others delete it, I get the most though, in my and Rick's forum.

Jojo, sometimes I don't think you can. :biggrin

Ah, you get those Viagra bots too? On a forum I used to moderate, there was often some of them...but a lot more spambots just posted massive advertisements for PS3's and iPhones..

Personally, I don't think we have many genuine trolls here. Let's be careful that we don't define trolls as "someone who disagrees with me" which I think some do. I have this feeling that AoG, based on him not answering a direct post of mine and his reference to the ignore feature, believes I am a troll based almost solely on the fact that when I disagree with something I will post on the subject. Personally, that is what I thought forums were about as long as the posting is done in a constructive and respectful fashion.

I would welcome any feedback from folks here as to who they think the "trolls" are. I do not think ignoring anyone is the answer. Offering the feedback directly either in posts or in IM should be the preferred approach as to settle the differences in posting behavior. I have found, as someone suggested, that ignoring folks tends to make any disagreements or problems worse.

God bless! :)

**Update**: Just found out that I am one of AoG's "trolls" as I can't IM him. Too funny! For what its worth, someone throw him a line for me with this post in an attempt to open up the dialogue. It would be a shame to close down discussion due to our preconceived notions of folks on the board. Thanks everyone! :biggrin

Aero, I agree. We don't get genuine trolls here, but some users post comments that are just trolling.

I've been a troll a time or two.

You are almost certainly correct. Who the trolls are varies from one person's perspective to another.

I would say a troll is one who posts repeatedly with "the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response."

:o ;) :tongue

Like being an athiest or agnostic constantly berating people with Christian values on a Christian forum.

It's one thing to join a Christian forum as a skeptic and ask alot of questions. It's another to join and post hundreds of comments with no intention of coming to Christ.

I agree. How dare we let others who don't believe as we do come in and converse with us. If only we could have our own little world where no one would question our beliefs or make us consider why we believe what we do or even if it's worth believing at all. [/sarcasm]

Using your reasoning we shouldn't even share our faith with unbelievers since we have no intention of becoming like them. Would you ever go to a non-Christians site and start posting Bible verses or trying to point out what you think their errors are?
