Not a Bible expert...is there an explanation? When you think about it, He could have just created the world and let us do our own thing, maybe intervening now and then. But...

...He didn't.
 
God does not love us because we are lovable or because we deserve it.God is love 1 John 4:8.Because God's very nature is love,He must demonstrate love.
 
I wonder if He just loves His creation? Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day. Genesis 1:31 NKJV
