OK maybe a little weird  Just got me thinking as my christian Dad and aunt etc were talking about what hymns, etc they wanted played at their funeral and we should let everyone know what we like.
I realise we won't be there!!!

But any thoughts on what you would like?
Would it be your favourite songs or would the lyrics of it be not that appropriate?
Would it be more witness (for those that aren't christians) orientated?

A lot of songs I like is about my walk here with God so don't think it would be appropriate. I just know I don't want a traditional dreary funeral as I want it to be a witness and encouragement to non christians that ours isn't an empty hope.

Just heard this Jeremy Camp song (http://www.godtube.com/view_video.php?v ... 325fa7cc1f)

"I try to hold on to this world with everything I have
But I feel the weight of what it brings, and the hurt that trys to grab
The many trials that seem to never end, His word declares this truth,
that we will enter in this rest with wonders anew

But I hold on to this hope and the promise that He brings
That there will be a place with no more suffering

There will be a day with no more tears, no more pain, and no more fears
There will be a day when the burdens of this place, will be no more, we’ll see Jesus face to face
But until that day, we’ll hold on to you always

I know the journey seems so long
You feel your walking on your own
But there has never been a step
[ Jeremy Camp Lyrics are found on http://www.songlyrics.com ]
Where you’ve walked out all alone

Troubled soul don’t lose your heart
Cause joy and peace he brings
And the beauty that’s in store
Outweighs the hurt of life’s sting

I can’t wait until that day where the very one I’ve lived for always will wipe away the sorrow that I’ve faced
To touch the scars that rescued me from a life of shame and misery this is why this is why I sing….

There will be a day with no more tears, no more pain, and no more fears
There will be a day when the burdens of this place, will be no more, we’ll see Jesus face to face

There will be a day, He’ll wipe away the stains, He’ll wipe away the tears, He’ll wipe away the tears…..there will be a day."

So at the moment this will be one of mine more because it will be helpful to christians and a witness and explanation to non christians, really good lyrics rather than being my favourite song.

It's not that weird; i think i've almost my entire funeral prepared :-D and i'm only in my twenties.

I know i've posted these lyrics once already in the 'Favorate Lyrics' thread, but i think this song is amazing.

Flags Of Dawn
Thrice

this darkness would eclipse our will
a cold wind blows across these hills
a swinging gaze from a hangman's tree
a crow's nest view of what's left to see
the light that's formed of saints return the silence to the snow
still beneath the craters waiting for this time to grow

so hold on
hold tight
open daylight
we will overcome

so put away your fear, the morning star will soon appear
and bring an end to this dark night
and we must run if we're to meet the light
watered by the blood of martyrs
blessed and blind as sons and daughters
sleep with one eye open and live with both eyes shut
so let's find the place where sight begins
and see the things that we saw when our
eyes were bright and wet against the light

and hold on
hold tight
open daylight
we will overcome

open your eyes
over the new sight
fly the flags of dawn

Well I have a favorite or two that I would like played besides the traditional Amazing Grace....
those would be:

On The Wings Of A Snow White Dove
What A Friend We Have In Jesus

Asleep by The Smiths has always been what I've wanted played at my funeral, and it does not change.

I do not wish to have a funeral as such. I wish immediate burial of the body, and a time of remembrance for family and friends.

I would like a men's quartet to sing the following song:

HALLELUJAH! WE SHALL RISE

In the resurrection morning when the trump of God shall sound,
We shall rise (Hallelujah!), we shall rise! Then the saints will come rejoicing,
And no tears will e'er be found, We shall rise (Hallelujah!), we shall rise!

Chorus:
We shall rise (Hallelujah!), we shall rise! (Amen!) We shall rise!
In the resurrection morning, when death's prison bars are broken,
We shall rise (Hallelujah!), we shall rise! (Amen!) We shall rise!

In the resurrection morning what a meeting it will be!
We shall rise (Hallelujah!), we shall rise! When our fathers and our mothers,
And our loved ones we shall see, Hallelujah! In that morning we shall rise!

In the resurrection morning, blessed thought it is to me,
We shall rise (Hallelujah!), we shall rise! I shall see my blessed Savior
Who so freely died for me, Hallelujah! We shall rise!

In the resurrection morning, we shall meet Him in the air,
We shall rise (Hallelujah!), we shall rise! And be carried up to glory,
To our home so bright and fair, We shall rise (Hallelujah!), we shall rise!

I like "When I get where I'm going". If I could choose more than one others would be the Jeremy Camp song mentioned above, "I'll Fly Away" and, more traditional--"How Great Thou Art".

Same here, except, I wish to be cremated. I want all to hear either "It is Well (with my soul)" or "How Great Thou Art".

This old tent will be cremated...

But I will be in heaven celebrating... and I guess I want my loved ones to celebrate with me. :shrug So play a Lincoln Brewster song for me, with a beautiful video and a comforting scripture, that should just about handle it. Here's one for ya...

Love the guitar...solo... I am a nut for electrics! Oh YEAH! :yes

Me too. And the age part also.

I just told my husband 2 nights ago that I wanted Untitled Hymn played at mine. Here are the lyrics:

Weak and wounded sinner
Lost and left to die
O, raise your head, for love is passing by
Come to Jesus
Come to Jesus
Come to Jesus and live!

Now your burden's lifted
And carried far away
And precious blood has washed away the stain, so
Sing to Jesus
Sing to Jesus
Sing to Jesus and live!

And like a newborn baby
Don't be afraid to crawl
And remember when you walk
Sometimes we fall...so
Fall on Jesus
Fall on Jesus
Fall on Jesus and live!

Sometimes the way is lonely
And steep and filled with pain
So if your sky is dark and pours the rain, then
Cry to Jesus
Cry to Jesus
Cry to Jesus and live!

O, and when the love spills over
And music fills the night
And when you can't contain your joy inside, then
Dance for Jesus
Dance for Jesus
Dance for Jesus and live!

And with your final heartbeat
Kiss the world goodbye
Then go in peace, and laugh on Glory's side, and
Fly to Jesus
Fly to Jesus
Fly to Jesus and live!

I want the ENTIRE Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (by Genesis) played
or Invisible Touch lol (by the same band lol)

You'll probably think this is weird...and it is. :screwloose

My sister (my best friend) and I have a very odd sense of humor and we have decided that whichever of us goes first has promised to play Queen's "Another One Bites the Dust." Only time will tell if either of us has the guts to go through with it!

"How Great Thou Art" but done the right way; none of this country stuff. ;)

Misfit, you'll have to come to my funeral!

Amazing Grace
See Him Coming
Mighty To Save
Housanna

and of course

It's the end of the worl as we know it (REM)

and the final countdown would be eipic!

but I couldn't have all that without having the entire Train of Thought album, by Dream Theater played.

---

As others have said, I don't want my funeral to be a 'funeral' as such, but more as a celebration.
