Hi Reba,Is there something in between 'paint' and photoshop'
that does not cost a million
Awesome! Glad you've got it to work!Eora so i went and looked thinking if you use it it should be safe... i loaded it up ... and already figured out how to get the photo to be repaired pasted in there,,, Thanks for the confidence booster
I quite like GIMP, but having worked with Photoshop CS6 a bit last year, it is EXTREMELY powerful. It's not exactly designed to be intuitive though; all Adobe products are designed for experts and professionals in mind.Hi Reba,
Ie GIMP (Graphic Image Manipulation Program) anjd it does everything PS does but it is much more intuitive and it is free. Only download it from their site or you get wormy trash though. It is a GNU Project and Windoze Faithful hate that.
You're right and trying to get the average Photo Buff introduced to GIMP is almost impossible, especially those that have two or three years invested in college learning it. Just a few weeks before Reba asked one of our pilots noticed I was retouching a number of the Vietnam photos that the grojup has begun to post of our fallen heroes and he posted his mom and dad, in rough condition and I fixed it in just over two hours. Of course I do not charge any vets nor most or close friends and he wanted to know what I used to do it that fast. He was one year in, the cost of the program and about 200 into options and when he tried GIMP, he trashed Photo Shop. PS comes out with new features and the Gimp Society figures out how to do that without Copy-write infringement and visa versa so one is always ahead of the other somewhere. If I could get a complete PS for about 10% of it's complete cost I would talk my wife into a copy but the last time I priced it a complete copy (add ons and all) was over a thousand and my computer doesn't cost that much.Awesome! Glad you've got it to work!
It is pretty cool to do most everyday things.

The Smudge Tool is standard in GIMP and there are anassortment of ways to add color. I enjoy using the Point to Point select (rope symbol) and the Spray Tool to lightly add skin and hair to photos like this one. I blow the image up to at least 800% and on 2x3 pics I go to 1100% or more using the Magnifying tool. For 800% or less there is a small window inset at the bottom of your palat surface.hopefully i can add very subtil color..
i am open to suggestion and help...
I agree that for many people's uses, GIMP is fine, if not better than PS. But in the industry, PS is the standard and is a lot more powerful. It really depends what you're using it for. You're right and trying to get the average Photo Buff introduced to GIMP is almost impossible, especially those that have two or three years invested in college learning it. It has done all my work sine '07 but just like people like myself that refuse to be controlled by software, even PS, one needs punch around on it or be controlled and pay someone like me to teach them. I usually just either teach or give the directions to the pdf files and videos instructions to people, it's easier and it's cheaper for them. And then there is no Prof that is self inflated that needs to know what you know that he doesn't.I agree that for many people's uses, GIMP is fine, if not better than PS. I'm not talking about restoring photos. I'm talking about professional digital art creation kind of stuff, where PS is indeed the best. For most things most people do, I agree GIMP is absolutely fine.It has done all my work sine '07 but just like people like myself that refuse to be controlled by software, even PS, one needs punch around on it or be controlled and pay someone like me to teach them. And since '07 I haven't found an image or a photo that I didn't create or repair with GIMP. At this point in time I do 99% photo restoration for friends and fellow veterans andit works better than anything else I've tested, save PS and on a fixed income I'll never go back.
