Im no theologian. Thats for sure.
But dont we all get obsessed about "the truth".
The intellectual truth I will assert. The left brain truth, if you dont mind me adding.
Im not saying a search for the truth isnt important. But sometimes we get too complacent if we think we have found it.
Alright. I know what you are going to say. "Jesus Christ is the truth."
And of course I agree. But doesnt that set us up to become intolerant? Inflexible? Dogmatic? The search is over therefore game over?
Ok Im sounding like a seriously disturbed liberal i know. A radical relativist. A heretic.
Because I wont put Bible front and centre? The Bible is the Truth more than Jesus Christ is the truth?
Ok Ok...i will stop making these migraine threads and return to my safe haven.
thanks for reading.

Very important subject and a great thread topic.

Jesus Christ is the truth, so we agree on this.

That means everything that proceeds from His mouth is the Truth.

I call this the fullness of truth:

His Gospel
His Commandments
His Doctrine

We as citizens of His kingdom, as children of God are called to obey the truth.

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. For I rejoiced greatly when brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you, just as you walk in the truth. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth. 3 John 2-4

But isn't it fascinating just to read the different perspectives within Christianity alone.
"My version of the truth is better than yours." its not like we are going to have a big awards ceremony on Judgement Day. One of the Apostles as Master of Ceremonies. 'And the award for closest to the truth goes to …………..drum roll...…… the Calvinists!! "
Who would have guessed they would win? Well certainly the Calvinists did. I'm still shaking my head. I almost became a Calvinist. I was that close!

I love where Joshua says "but as for me and my house we will serve the Lord."
Joshua 24:15: NKJV
I believe, to be able to do that, you have to pray for discernment, study for yourself and listen to The Holy Spirit.

I know this much, following the teachings on man is the way of death.

There is a way that seems right to a man,
But its end is the way of death. Proverbs 14:12

Following Christ and His teachings is the way of life.

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. John 14:6

Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.” Luke 6:47-49

Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God. He who abides in the doctrine of Christ has both the Father and the Son. 2 John 9

  • Whoever transgresses and does not abide in the doctrine of Christ does not have God.

Man’s teachings will lead you astray.

i dont want this thread to go down the path of proving one version of Christianity is better than another.
Rather we zoom out for a while. Get an aerial view.
No one owns the truth. The truth owns us maybe?
Prayer is superior to debate or even evangelism imo.
and while im on prayer.....do you think God prefers someones prayer effort over another?
i honestly think he does. He knows our hearts. He knows if we are fake or not. Sincerity is the key. And respect of course.

In the beginning was the word, the word was with God and the word was God.
V14 The word became flesh and dwelt among us.

ALL scripture is God Breathed and useful for teaching, rebuking..........
So that the man of God can be useful for every good work.

Im trying to ask this question in the right spirit. With respect, are you afraid to use your own words? .By simply quoting the Bible, you are being relevant?
God gave us brains. I dont think he minds if we use them. As long as we have good intention.

If we discard or discount the scriptures then exactly what do the foundations of our faith rest upon?

IMHO these scriptures answer the question succinctly... because without them we become nothing more than a "good guy" club.

The Spirit of the Scriptures brings life while the letter of the Law kills.

And on another note...

Our God is a personal God and reveals himself to each of us on a personal level.

Only God can hold to a perfect theology. The rest of us aren't going to have such a perfect view.
And where there isn't a Beatitude that says "blessed are the most theologically correct because...."

Loving your God with all your heart, all your might, and all your strength....does say best efforts are called for... implying that humility and stewardship and respect for others is mandatory.

Again Im not going to go down the path of challenging your view of the truth. My purpose is to ask , is that enough?
enough to make you happy?
enough to get you to Heaven?
enough to dismiss all others' version of the truth?

Someone could challenge the verses you have quoted here? Are they the best ones to use ?
the many interpretations suggest to me that the truth isnt as clear,as black and white as first thought.

I love where Joshua says "but as for me and my house we will serve the Lord."
Joshua 24:15: NKJV
I believe, to be able to do that, you have to pray for discernment, study for yourself and listen to The Holy Spirit.
So the ones who have the best discernment have the best versions of the truth?
or we need to discern the best discerners?

Joshua 1:8
Do not let this book of the Law depart your mouth. Meditate on it day and night so you might be prosperous and successful.

I read the Book of Josua about 9 months ago by the way. Plus Bible Study. Dont remember much except fighting and blooshed. The book is full of violence as I recall.

The difference being I'm not trying to win.
Not suggesting that you are trying to win anything.
But we all derive truth from something.

And we can either derive truth from scriptures or thin air. Some use a combination of the two.

What do you use to derive truth?

Different to you. Thats all that matters for the purposes of this thread.
