"He is either created and not God, or he is uncreated and therefore God."
So, instead of actually dealing with the grammar/usage of my independent study of John's clause in John 1:1c, you force me into a position of 2 choices: Agreeing with you that the Word was God, or disagreeing and being...
“2. Verse 3 completely does away with any notion that the Word is a created being.”
I don’t believe I have said whether he is a “created being” or not. It is not necessary to the translation of John 1:1c.
I would be happy to discuss this with you after we have exhausted all our evidence...
“1. The Word cannot be ‘a god’ because there is and only ever has been one True God. There are no lesser gods. One God. Monotheism.”
If I should answer this in detail, I would be banned again. This certainly makes an honest discussion very difficult.
However, to answer your first six words...
It really doesn't matter to me how any Bible translates John 1:1c.
My interest in this scripture began when I still thought it was correctly translated as "And the Word was God," but I was perplexed by the context ("Word WITH God" and "Word WAS God").
When a friend questioned the traditional...
Surely there is someone here who has access to an interlinear NT. And surely that person is able to see if John has used the following construction (clause with predicate noun before the verb) in more places than I have been able to find (listed below):
For example:
“prophet are you” in John...
Apparently DI is no longer here.
Is there any one else here who can find another "Colwell's Construction" (predicate count noun without article ["the'] coming before its verb) which is not translated as indefinite ("a man," a prophet," "a thief," etc.) as found in post #13 above?
I am looking...

It's a sad fact that there are many with very differing beliefs who are absolutely convinced that Holy Spirit and "wise spiritual counsel" have led them to their varying 'truths.'
If one believes the Bible to be true and the basis for belief, then a careful examination of what has been written...
Obadiah, I'm sure this will be much to your dismay, but I agree with you.
Also, I'm sure that you know the difference between 'prophecy' and 'prophesy' and merely made a typo (as we all do -- too often in my case).
Hi Jocor,
I prefer my understanding, but wouldn't be upset if yours turned out to be correct. The major point being that Jesus is not equally God with YHWH!
John 17:20, 21, KJV:
20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.
It is far from being "quite clear" as translated in most Bibles. Here is a condensed version of my exhaustive study of John 1:1c - http://www.christianforums.net/Fellowship/index.php?threads/jws-just-came-to-my-door.52019/page-2

Ps. 83:16-18, KJV:
16 Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O Lord.
17 Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish:
18 That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.
