How do you choose a Bible translation?

Believe it or not it's according to your desire to please church, or your desire for honesty!

For example, do you want to use a translation that has old, archaic language which is often hard to understand, which translation is based on later, and limited manuscripts of the Bible, or one that has current examples as the ancient languages have become more clearly defined.

Do you prefer the norm that REMOVES and REPLACES God's Name, instead of honoring His son's words to let God's Name be honored among you.

Or, you really don't care...

The purpose of this topic (barring JLB's banning it) will be to explore different translations!
 
To begin with, the name of Jesus' God has been in the Bible far more than his name- almost 7,000 times.
And, it has now been discovered to be Yehovah in Hebrew, and the pre-WTBS version in English Jehovah!

On January 21, 2018, Bible Scholar Nehemia Gordon and his team of researchers discovered the 1,000th Hebrew Bible manuscript containing the original name of God in Hebrew with vowels.

There is no escaping this as many Biblical names are made up, in part, of Jehovah- even Jesus' own name which means "Salvation of Jehovah"!

A common trick of translation is to replace words (as with God's Holy Name), as seen here with an Interlinear Translation (ISA)~

Another error is to have verses in the LATER versions, NOT in the Earlier, such as at 1 John 5:7- For there are three that bear witness in heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one. - NKJV

The highlighted being COMMONLY known to have been added in the later versions .
 
Also, the choice one is given as a translator is dependent on the translator views, as in John 15:26- “But when the Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify of Me."- NKJV

Or, adding a whole new definition is a standard trick, as at: Matt 24:3- Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”

Also note the capitalization (biblical had none) we Jesus being 'He', to support him being God literally....
 
Often the one word has a flavor of different meanings the translator can choose from, according to his own beliefs, in the case "day" for Genesis~

A common problem is MIS-TRANSLATION, such as with Ex 3, and the John 8:58 scam~

John 8:58- Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM."

Authorized King James for me.
Later interpretations change the intent of the words in order to suit men, and accommodate sin.
Like changing the word "perfect" to "complete" in 2 Tim 3:17.
That is the verse I use to differentiate real from false versions of the bible.

The King James scholars were very limited to the manuscripts, and were influenced by the Church of England- thus had MANY, MANY mistakes. error, and words they had added.

You are inferring then that God had no input on the first widely distributed version of...Him.
 
No- the truth can be known from the KJV, despite it's may faults!
In fact, I use it when I go from door to door- or USED to!
 
Notice the similarities between the translation of Ex 7 and John 1!

Notice there are NO CAPS in the Biblical languages, and "a" is added to Ex 7, just as "a" is added to some translations of John 1.

Do you speak any language besides English?
I have taken German and Spanish classes and find that translating one language to another often requires additions and leeways to get a message across.
When I consider that Aramaic and Hebrew were translated to Greek and then Roman and then English to produce a King James version bible I can understand, it amazes me that anything came across clearly, to the glory of God.
