Nice! Thanks! Do you consult the LXX when doing studies in the Old Testament?
A professor that I am taking a class on Christian Morals under right now surprised most of the class recently when he pointed out that Malachi 2:16 does not say "he hates putting away" (KJV) or "I hate divorce"...
I have been looking for a good translation of the Septuagint for a while and finally I found one available online from a translation that is now in the public domain: The Septuagint LXX:Greek and English by Sir Lancelot C.L. Brenton (http://ecmarsh.com/lxx/).
Also, and this was quite...
I actually first learned the word "Ani" from this Hebrew song sung by (now unfortunately deceased) Yemeni Jewish singer Ofra Haza called "Yerushalayim Shel Zahav" (Jerusalem of Gold):
Her voice in that video is what I imagine angels in Heaven must sound like, and singing in the Biblical...
Oh, good one, because each time you change your avatar the question will take on new meaning! ;)
Anyway... Tiny shells? Gem pebbles? A Kalieodoscope? What you see when someone hits you really hard on the head?!
I think "pocked" sounds even stranger. E.g. "His clothes were dirt pocked." "The moon's surface is pocked with craters". Also found in the word "pockmark" which I think has geological uses like a "pockmarked surface".
Is this modern Hebrew?
Well if I were to transcribe/transliterate this (though I don't know the vowels or the stops) it seems to me to say:
Ani La'yamod (Li'mod?) avrith? == Ani means "I/me" I believe. Can't make out the second word. Avrith = Hebrew. For a second looked like it had the root...
Hi AirDancer,
Sorry, I don't know exactly where he went, otherwise I would have mentioned it earlier.
All I know is that our Church's congregation was shown the "more kosher" of two recorded videos that he sent back blessing us for Sunday morning and briefly summarizing what he was doing...
I wouldn't doubt it. It seems like most of the Scandinavian community is in that area and not in New England (that is to say, they seem mostly located west of the Great Lakes).
Awesome! Thanks for the history lesson!
So you live in that "longest of all states" huh? LOL. I just recently drove top to bottom and vice versa through Illinios from Alabama headed toward Wisconsin. It was a 5+ hour drive. Whew!
My whole family on my Dad's side is from Wisconsin (they moved...
Nice!
Interesting you mention Scots. I had never heard of it by that name (I always just called everything spoken north of England "Scottish") until recently. I happened to be reading a book this week and in it there is a young woman living by herself except for one house maid from Scotland and...
Simple title, simple topic. What languages do you know (partially or in entirety) or what languages are you interested in? Maybe also you could mention why you are interested in those languages if you like.
German
As for me I know some German (perhaps 20% at this point and growing). I am at...
I have to say that this question threw me for a loop (as the expression goes) since I didn't know what you meant by "integrated" for a moment. Once I contextualized it within Brimingham's civil rights history it suddenly made sense, but I had to google for how Samford fit into the picture and...
Hi Claudya!
I don't believe we've met before. I've been in "hibernation" for a while but I've been around a time or two here on the forums.
So you're from Germany huh? Ich spreche ein bisschen Deutsch. Ich habe eigentlich eine Reise nach Deutschland in diesem Jahr gemacht. Ich war in Berlin...
Christ_empowered (may I call you Ian?)
Perhaps you could ease into bible studies training by looking at this website: http://christiancourses.com/. I was able to grab the entirety of one of their free courses (they have one almost every month) on Martin Luther by an acknowledged Reformation...
I agree. I was just having this conversation with some friends over dinner tonight when discussing that the patriarchs and others in the OT had multiple wives. I mentioned that polygamy was like divorce in God's eyes: wrong but permitted because of the hardness of their heart.
The times of...
This remains mostly a matter of observation, although there actually is a substantial difference between the two statements in red. What if I said "Most green plants are lettuce"? A brief observation would show that this is patently not true. Lettuce is one among many plants that are green, but...
Indeed. Without the Paraclete, the Holy Spirit, our Christian walk would be impossible and fruitless. And it is quite right that it is not necessary to be educated, as it plainly shows in Acts, since the Holy Spirit equipped them as needed.
My question/topic more pertains to: in the realm of...
Let me generalize this more than most people have been doing so far - at the risk of patronizing you. But hey, you wanted simple... :)
Eschatology is a study of the "Last things". The word comes from the Greek word eschaton which occurs several times in the New Testament including: Acts 2:17, 1...
