    Essential Doctrines

I think the more important question for each person is who they would be willing to work with in mission - in reaching out to others. Mission drives people towards what they really think is important in the gospel. That is, of course, if we do have a sense of mission.

    Questions about Satan

Good questions. Rev 12:4 talks about the tail of the serpent bringing down a third part of the stars of heaven. Of course there are those who say this is the future, but I suspect this speaks of the fall you are talking about. Luk 10:18 talks about Satan falling from heaven. I think the...

The Myth of saying that Jesus Christ died for all men without exception !

Isn't God the one who gives life to all? Or are non-believers really zombies?

    Essential Doctrines

Not sure what Ps 2 has to do with the meaning of a Greek word. It is in hebrew is it not? Just because Strongs interprets the meaning of a word as something, doesn't mean that is its meaning. Strongs is quite old. Try looking up Thayer. There you can see how the word is used in other writings...

    Salvation

Many focus strongly on Pauls iconic phrase salvation by faith, and while this is very true it isn't the whole picture of salvation. Once saved is there any responsibility of a person? I believe so and many on this forum seem to say that many in churches are teaching a cheap grace, or that there...

The Myth of saying that Jesus Christ died for all men without exception !

So the evidence you reject because it can't mean what it says. It says the world, but can't mean that because the world isn't saved. Is that it? But that isn't the case. Just because the sins are taken away doesn't mean we are reconciled with God. I can forgive someone without being reconciled...

    Essential Doctrines

only begotten is only one possible translation of monogenes (or however you want to transliterate the word). It can also be, only of this kind. It doesn't necessarily have to have anything to do with begotting.

The Myth of saying that Jesus Christ died for all men without exception !

in your horor? But yes, this is what God says in scripture. Not wanting something to be true doesn't make it false. It doesn't change that scripture says, Jesus is the lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world And as you pointed out from John 17, clearly, world doesn't mean only the elect.

The Myth of saying that Jesus Christ died for all men without exception !

All you are doing here is showing how the idea of the world is not simply the elect- that in fact Jesus takes away the sin of the world - all people, elect or not (not that I like the term elect). These verses do nothing to show that there is a difference between someone being forgiven and...

The Myth of saying that Jesus Christ died for all men without exception !

Context? What context? Suddenly a word changes meaning because of some context which you arbitarily impose on it? Why not impose the same context on John 8:23 (ESV) He said to them, "You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world (the elect); I am not of this world (the elect)" Is...

The Myth of saying that Jesus Christ died for all men without exception !

Yes, so? They are part of the world. John the baptist says Jesus takes away the sin of the whole world. How does saying the elect are part of the world, change the meaning of the whole world?

The Myth of saying that Jesus Christ died for all men without exception !

I don't really see how another passage talking about being enemies, changes the basic meaning of the whole world meaning the whole world. John the baptist, says Jesus, takes away the sin of the whole world. I agree with that statement. You say, I need to prove it means that? It means what it...

The Myth of saying that Jesus Christ died for all men without exception !

Any evidence it refers to the non-elect? It says, the whole world. Are the non-elect not part of the world? I think if you want to say that when the Bible says, Jesus died the for the whole world - it doesn't mean the whole world, then the burden of proof would be on you wouldn't it? Perhaps...

The Myth of saying that Jesus Christ died for all men without exception !

So you think we can just pick and choose what words mean?

The Myth of saying that Jesus Christ died for all men without exception !

see the above post about what 'the world' means in john, the examples of how it would work if the world was only the elect.

The Myth of saying that Jesus Christ died for all men without exception !

Again other than just saying that is what it means, do you have any evidence that this is the case? Other than this is what you decree? LEt's apply this logic to some other verses in John John 1;10, Jesus was amongst the elect (the world) and the elect (the world) was made through him, yet the...

    Essential Doctrines

The apostles creed above is different from the Nicene Creed. The Nicene Creed is more specific about the deity of Christ. I think that is a more accurate reflection of historical Christianity. but I think there are plenty of Scriptures that speak of the diety of Christ. As for the Resurrection...

The Myth of saying that Jesus Christ died for all men without exception !

Actually I specfialised in Luther not Calvin. Haven't read too much of him. I'm not sure why it is pathetic to say the argument doesn't prove anything when it doesn't. Clearly there are two verses which say Jesus died for the whole world, and all you do is say, when it says, the world, it means...

The Myth of saying that Jesus Christ died for all men without exception !

No where else in John's writings does the 'world' refer to the elect. In fact in 1 John it refers to those who are specifically against believers. 1 John 2:2 refers to us, the believers and not just us, the believers but the whole world!

If John says it is so, then why not believe John?
