I don't think it will solve the problem. The church will uphold the church law, but many of the liberal congregations may split rather than remove the non-conforming clergy.

About the culture of the Appalachian people. I grew up in the northern end of the Appalachians in Upstate New York and recognize some of the cultural dynamics. I did not have a dysfunctional family such as the author had, but I sure knew a lot of those families.
