So much of music these day's embraces a party it up mentality. Now I love all genres of music, but these new songs today reflect the deep sickness in our society.

Drugs
Sex
Vengeance
& Self worship

Are what alot of songs are about, and where are those old songs that had meaning and left you uplifted.

Art imitates life and todays art reflects the general decay we are experiencing. We are unraveling at our very seams. The nation is in its last gasps as a cohesive society.

Vit,

I'm a former rock radio DJ from the late 60s and 70s. I heard the same kind of themes in Jimi Hendrix and the Rolling Stones.

I remember playing Dean Martin's, 'Little Ole Wine Drinker Me', around that time and an advertiser got rather animated against me because I made a negative comment about Dino's inebriated approach to life.

I do agree that the content of secular songs is a statement of the climate of the culture.

May I add that I see a similar fluffy content in many of the contemporary songs being sung in church. I can't sing some of them because I disagree with the theology being promoted. I don't disagree with contemporary music but I have a low tolerance for theologically lite lyrics and songs that promote existentialism rather than a deep walk with God.

I'm a less than average singer and find many of the contemporary Christian songs are for performance and not for tuneful congregational singing.

I guess that also is a statement about where the teaching of the church is or where the people are in their walk with Jesus.

And then...

The Fray "You Found Me"

Train "Calling All Angels"

The list can go on and on...

I once looked at a elton John CD and was amazed to find the lyric credit on the entire album went to someone else, he never even wrote any of his songs.

People will be surprised if they do a bit of research some of the biggest bands and musicians never even wrote there hit songs and sometimes even the music. They made it big through other peoples music and lyrics.

He wrote the music, just not the lyrics.

I actually own almost all of King's X's discog and several Stryper albums.

I think that music on the raideo will always be more centered around drugs, sex, and Rock n' Roll.

Most people can Identify or relate with that. I mostly listen to stuff outside pop but I like a little bit of it.
