"If we are to be reconciled to God, we need more than forgiveness for breaking His law. We also require the righteousness of One who has kept God’s law perfectly. Jesus’ active obedience is His perfect obedience to God’s law. Jesus’ passive obedience is His paying the penalty for our failure to obey God’s law."

Romans 5
8 God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from the wrath of God through Him.
10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.
.

Salvation is not a bit by bit process.

When jesus forgave us he also gave us his righteousness, we often have to grow into the Christian he wants us to be, but it's not like a computer game do this, this and this and get " extra scantifcation!

We have to work, to study, to strive to live a life worthy of our saviour.
