Laurel and I are spending a few days in the city, which we like to do several times a year. Today we checked out the home of Alexander Hamilton in Harlem on 141st street. Part of today's events included a debate between Hamilton and Thomas Jefferson concerning the role of government. These two guys were excellent, both great actors and so well versed on the views of their characters, Hamilton for a strong central government, and Jefferson for weaker federal government and greater sovereign power for the states.
Tomorrow we'll visit the 911 memorial. I have such strong memories of the World Trade Center. We used to take the kids there so often, and watch them run around the Plaza between the two towers, being delighted in the antics of the buskers. We visited the still smoking rubble of the towers just days after the attack. I'm eager to see what's been done to remember those who were killed on that day.
