Genesis 1
1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.
2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

Check this out.

Interestingly, two different groups of crustaceans can do this, albeit with less bright results. Pistol shrimp and mantis shrimp can both induce bubbles with similar forces, the light of which can be detected by sensitive instruments. The light is incidental to the bubbles/striking force of these animals.

It is interesting though, that most cosmologies have a universe that begins with only radiant energy present. Maybe God was telling us something about that. Not that it matters, but it's consistent with what cosmologists have found about the universe.

Could be.

We'll never know.
