The sunshine vitamin D is now used in the treatment of Tuberculosis.

Now...... On my honor I did not even read the article yet, but I want to make a prediction as to what it will say. Like many vitamin articles, it will sing the praises of vitamins, but then they will add a disclaimer in the end, to the effect "but don't get too many vitamins, ask your doctor first and in this case, don't spend much time in the sun and always use sunblock". In other words, they toot the benefits of vitamins, but then turn around and say the OPPOSITE to add fear into the people's minds NOT to take them without medical "permission". Of course most doctors will say "you get all you need in a healthy diet" in which I claim there is no such thing today and are woefully ignorant of nutrition anyway. I sometimes think that's government forcing their hype on otherwise what is freedom of speech. They can't ban the article, but like cartons of cigarettes they have to add their 2 cents of claims (and that's all it's worth, too)

It's about 11:30AM here now. I'll read this article later and check back to see if my predictions were correct.

I'm back from lunch and read the article and all I can say is well, well, I was wrong. They did not add that disclaimer at the end and just gave what sounded to be straightforward facts. In this case, I'm glad I was wrong. And coming from establishmentalism CBS is equally surprising. All I can say is that "this is a first"! This shows it can be done without the opposing view always elbowing in and spewing off their tripe.

In short, I'm saying, "Get out into that sun before it gets too low from the approaching winter!"

Ahhhhh, that wonderful sun. Hands down the best source of vitamin D on the planet. I personally close my eyes and stare at it for 20 minutes a day. Great cure for depression too!

One of the things I've noticed after moving south is there is a lot more sun even in winter. It makes me happy. :) I can do my daily bible read in my rocker out on my deck in the sun almost every day.

For the record, I heard that the sun has to be 50 degrees elevation to get the vitamin D, at least to anything worthwhile. Think of the 6:5 ratio. If you put a mini 6" ruler standing straight up on a flat portion of the ground, if the shadow is 5" or shorter the sun is high enough for vitamin D production.

I actually carved lines on one of my slate sundials that indicate when I'm getting my vitamin D. Just think, a sundial that both tells time and one that tells if you are getting vitamin D! :lol

I think 50 degrees and lower is UV "sunset". Just as the blues disappear before the lower frequency reds near sunset, likewise the UV disappears before the rest of the visible light.
