[__ Science __ ] Animal Superpowers

I was just thinking about this last night when I caught a whiff of a skunk outside. Although I don't know anybody who actually likes the smell of skunk, it actually fascinates me that skunks have the ability to spray in order to defend themselves. Just like (a lot of but not all) birds have the ability to fly to get around, and I'm not sure why fireflies light up (maybe to mate) but I find that it's really neat to watch and I used to love catching them. :biggrin2 Oh yeah and how spiders have the ability to spin beautiful webs to catch their food. Can anybody else think of some really cool and interesting superpowers in the animal kingdom? I can think of one more right now,.. how cheetahs are literally the fastest animal on earth and can reach speeds up to seventy-five miles per hour. :mouthdrop

I like animal videos and watch a lot of them. Mostly training vids but also how many animals have saved peoples lives. A pet pig went running up the road to find help when it's master had a stroke or something, a pack of lions who rescued a 12 year old girl from her abductors and chased them off and stayed and guarded her until some people came by and got her, and all sorts of those types videos. Also how animals have bonded with humans and stuff. Like one man rescued a baby Polar bear and it grew up with him and it's something to watch this man and full grown polar bear play around. Then there's a lot of videos where people have bonded with African lions and stuff, and that just blows me away watching petite human girls go and hug a full grown maneater! and hippos and elephants too! Wow!

I have come to the conclusion that a lot of times, the animals are controlled by our Lord. For a pack of lions to perceive that the humans with the 12 yr old girl had evil intent and then to not harm the girl and continue to guard her...is over the top. There is something more than animal instinct going on there.

Many animals are put here solely for our companionship, protection and to help us. Especially dogs I think. My English Mastiff that I used to own, hardly ever barked at people walking by. Maybe 2 or 3 times all the time I owned him...like he could sense if they were good or bad, so only bark at the bad ones, right? It must be. One day a long time friend (??) of mine came over to visit and had never met Thor before...and Tjhor growled at him and barked at him, he did not like or trust my "friend". I wondered about that and if he sensed something that I could not? I never looked at that friend the same way again after that, lol!

So...superpowers? I doubt it. But in contact with God almighty, and God helps people through our animals? Yes I would say so.

but on the other hand...some animals have attacked children unprovoked. So they weren't controlled by God, now were they? So maybe animals have free will also and can choose, so some are nice and some are bad?

Oh I don't know, I look at it as God having given animals their superpowers. Another thing that really amazes me are monkeys of how intelligent they are, and how well they can climb. Bats and dolphins are pretty amazing with their sonar vision as well. :biggrin2

Actually, the fastest recorded speed of a cheetah was 61mph and most people think they are the fastest land animals, which is true in a short sprint. However, here in the United States is a land animal that could outrun a cheetah. The pronghorn antelope can also reach speeds up to 61mph but it can maintain that speed for considerably longer stretches. They are a long distance runner.

The human brain has yet to be matched by any animal. Unfortunately, we don't always use that power for good.

I understood the second part as I remember reading that or hearing that somewhere but I was just posting what it said in the video for the first part.

Oh I don't know about that. Dolphins and monkeys/apes are also rather intelligent. In fact I think I remember reading somewhere that dolphins are even smarter than monkeys. Checkout these videos if you don't believe me.

When a dolphin or other primate builds a society with a culture ,then you have a point. I can find dolphins and purpose in my county.

Maybe you do have a point there as monkeys can't architect a whole entire city,.. but they do have the brain power to use certain tools in order to survive. I'll have to search for a video on this later on to show you and everybody else on here what I mean if you don't already know.

I don't think that you guys are thinking about this the right way. Just because an animal can not build a house or a city doesn't mean that they are not as intelligent or even potentially more intelligent than humans are.

You have to think, what is that animals purpose here on earth? Maybe they just know that building is counter productive in the larger scheme of things?

I saw a video about some tourist spot, and the monkeys that were in the area learned how to steal tourist belongings and then ransom the item back to them for food. That is some fairly high level thinking on their part!

I've almost always had a dog or two. There have been times that I, suspected that they could understand every word that I spoke to them. Maybe they do know our language but just can not speak it? Or, maybe their systems are so finely tuned to be able to sense the energy that is associated with having someone speak? Most people do not have such skills. but either way I think it can be construed as intelligence of a sort.

Cats are...a little spooky at times. I think I have picked up on cats trying to control or manipulate people at times. I have even watched some sort of testimonial on youtube where the speaker was giving an account of a visitation from Jesus one time, and she made the remark that Jesus was kidding (?) with her and told her, that her cat contemplates God better than she does!

...and, why wouldn't or couldn't that be true? Scripture says that, all of creation sings praises unto God...so it makes one wonder, just how "intelligent" animals really are? It could very well be, that animals station in life just does not require the activities of building, architecture and all that stuff. Judging from society and man's effects on the earth from such activities we can safely say that, mankind are idiots and slow learners. Scripture hints at this too. The wise become as fools and the fools as wise.

Although I agree with a lot of what you said here animals cannot worship God because they don't understand who and what God is. They don't know sin either which is why I believe that animals go to Heaven because of the fact that babies are the same way and they don't know any better so I don't believe either of them would go to Hell. Unless of course, if you're speaking of that old Christmas legend where the barnyard animals were speaking praises to the baby Jesus.

There's not much that hydrogen peroxide, baking soda and soap will not wash and deodorize, I use that concoction quite a bit. The original oxy-clean!

I'm not sure if I agree with what they said about the tomato juice as I had one or two dogs that got sprayed by a skunk and it seemed to work rather well.

Anyways, I found the video that I wanted. :)

Also, here's a bonus video since you mentioned dogs. :wink

Oh yes and I feel like this is still on topic because I consider intelligence a super power. To WIP, another point about the cheetah. The fact that cheetahs are sprinters instead of long distance runners (I think that's probably because they don't have that much endurance although I'm not a hundred percent sure with that. :thinking) is probably why a human being would beat a cheetah in a marathon. I think that's how the old brainer teaser goes.

Look up McKee jungle garden on you tube.local place to me and yes before Disney lead that place closing monkeys were famous for harassing you, climbing over you .

If animals have that ability to create ,think then why would God tell us to slay so,many of them that are ?cab they sin? Dogs in,India are known to eat infants by mauling them to death in their feral packs.

Dolphins can be eateb under kosher laws and gentile laws . same with whales

Yes that's right, I forgot to mention this part since Edward pretty much said the same thing. Although it's naughty, it takes a lot of smarts for a monkey to try and bribe you with something valuable to you and get food out of the deal. :lol

Yes, but that's because although intelligent most animals (with maybe the exception of other primates) don't have a concept of right and wrong.

Thus you are gonna argue that Jesus died for the primates who are very easily angry ,will also rip apart your limbs in wrath .we project emotions on animals.dogs can't cry ,they do have emotions but we are not able to read their minds to know them .

You can't lower us to the level of a sophisacated primate since no known primate other then us can build cities and understand complex ideas.

An ape doesn't question his being ,he simply acts in his nature
