Q: Can we blame abortion and lawlessness on evolution?

A: The root cause of social problems is sin--the rebellion against God's Word. But in people's minds today, what really justifies this rebellion against God's Word? If we're honest, it's evolution.

Because people have been taught that man evolved from ape-like creatures, and that the Bible's account of origins in Genesis can't be accepted, then they believe they're not responsible to anyone but themselves. This means that ultimately they can do whatever they want.

Evolution so permeates our society that more and more people believe that the Bible's not true. Therefore, they don't have to be obedient to God's Word. And the more people believe they're just animals in the fight for survival, then why shouldn't they justify homosexual behavior or abortion?

Evolutionists themselves admit this connection with evolution, abortion, and homosexuality. In the magazine Scientific American, an author admitted that social issues like abortion and homosexuality are in 'Darwin's beat.'

The more people believe in evolution, and reject the Bible, the more we're going to see an increase in anti-God behavior.

Actually, in the past decade we saw a reduction in rape, murder, assault, and crimes against property.

At least we did in the United States.

So, I guess it turned out O.K. after all.

You know, if you were correct, then scientists (who are overwhelminingly accepting evolution) and their children should behave a lot worse than normal folks. And the opposite is true. Scientists tend to be a remarkably law-abiding bunch.

And people in other nations (where evolution is much more accepted than in the United States) should be more inclined to kill each other. And just the opposite is true. The U.S. has a much higher rate of violent crime than most other industrial nations.

If anything, the evidence shows that creationism causes violent crime.

How about explaining the logical relationship between Darwinism and a decline in social mores. How does the one inevitably lead to the other?

Personally, I blame the decline in North Sea fishing yields over recent years. There is even a positive correlation of sorts to back up my claim! ;)

Usually I avoid the Evo board since most posters are ill-equipped to debate it, but hey, I feel adventurous today...

Way too many variables come into this equation to use it as an argument for your point, Barbarian. One must consider the other nations' penalties and punishments, law enforcement methods and poverty distribution - among many other possible variables.

I would say that the lack of belief in moral absolutes has a degrading effect on society. I would also contend that while evolutionists certainly may and do hold ethics in high regard, they also are not bound to believe in that way. I see a drastically higher percentage of evolutionists who do not believe in moral absolutes than I do creationists with similar ethical beliefs... of course, that is solely my opinion and I do not have statistics to strengthen it. But I think it is a logical proposition, and I have some personal experience to lead me in that direction.

You're right, of course. Such simplistic connections without a serious and detailed study of many factors is foolish.

My point was only to show that if we used such reasoning, it would "prove" that creationism causes a decline in the moral fabric of society.

It shows no such thing, of course, any more than it works for evolution. Perhaps my parody was too good?
