Gravity. Takes a huge amount of pressure to fuse two nuclei into one. Jupiter is made of the same stuff as the Sun, but it's too small to produce the gravitational forces capable if initiating fusion.

All apes have evolved. Different populations evolved in different ways. None of them is the same as early apes.
Dryopithecus, for example, is markedly different than modern apes like chimps, humans, or gorillas.
