Are there any good Christian movies?

I have seen a few good Christian movies and a lot of bad ones. Now I don't mean "Jesus movies" I'm talking about Christian made movies with a Christian message. Any suggestions? Keep in mind I live in an oppressive Mormon theocracy (aka Utah) and it's hard for me to find Christian movies so there may be good ones out there I just can't find them.

The lack of replies does not speak well for Christian films... :gah

You might want to check out Second Chance, starring Jeff Obafami Carr and Michael W. Smith. Produced by Steve Taylor. MWS' character has to leave his dad's megachurch and get his hands dirty, helping JOC's inner city mission. I haven't seen it all, but what I have seen is IMO solid. :shades

Thanks capn' and you too lostlamb, I'll look in to both if I can find them here.

You are welcome Misfit. The Cross & The Switchblade may prove a little ellusive. Though I am not sure. The movie in itself is fairly old, so I am not sure if it is carried much on DVD if at all. May have to revisit my parent's collection to find out.

Another one is R.I.O.T. which is a Carman movie. A good one though. Carman plays the role of a single father and cop who struggles with trying to upbring his children as a Christian while faced with some pretty rough tests of faith. Though perhaps not as profound as my first suggestion, it is not bad. The Sound of Music, though not necessarily a movie based solely on Christian values is a good musical with some real solid Christian values in it.

Will try to add more as I think of them.

I loved the "love comes softly" series that was on hallmark but can get in blockbuster. But would think that would be to girly for you, but surprisingly my husband enjoyed it :confused
If you hate waltons etc you won't like it.

"the visitation" by Frank Peretti was quite good if you missed that.
"hangmans curse" by him as well is older but OK.
I might get "house" out (April 7th DVD) as I like haunted house movies but I did hate the book (not well written) but will work for a movie
"thr3e" was good but not much of a christian message

I don't know if the above technically would fall into "christian movies" but Peretti's movies have an underlying 'christian' theme, albeit it even more dumbed down in some movies.

Those are the only ones I can think of just now apart from "fireproof".

edit: I went into blockbuster online, as that is how I saw them. But you can get them through amazon as well. Don't know if netflix carries them - probably do.

I saw the Visitation, and was not really impressed. I loved the book but felt the film left too much out. I will look for the others you suggested though, I think my wife would like the Love comes softly films. Like I said the only thing that makes it hard for me is that I live in Utah and Christian things are hard to find here, we used to have a Lifeway store that I loved but it went out of business due to being in Utah. :(

Are you on blockbuster online or netflix?

If you aren't but have a decent sized blockbuster store nearby then you should get the above in store? Since the Peretti movies escpecially, have more of a generic theme of God maybe the mormons might even like them - you may be surprised hopefully!

You can get them on amazon if you want to buy them.

Not that I have your problem (must be hard living in Utah being a christian) but I don't live in the bible belt, it's not as bad as San Fran, but if we have those titles in store hopefully you will as well :thumb

Personally I find if you love a book, no film is ever going to live up to it, they just have to cut out so much (and you are right they did cut huge chunks out of visitation :verysad ). I'm just glad at least some different types of christian movies are being made.
