asperger adhd is it a substance or nerve connection???????

They are neurodevelopmental disorders known to be very genetically inheritable, so yes, they are related to nerve connections in a sense

I have both an ASD (autism spectrum disorder) and ADHD. I do not see it as a handicap or disability for the most part. Part of it is genetic and part of it is environmental/congenital (from birth). Its just fine though, it makes me who I am, enables me to excel at certain things. To most of the neurotypical (NT) world, it's pretty obvious that I have some "issues" but folks can either accept me as I am or keep on walking.

My ability to get obsessive and hyperfocus makes me a great engineer, designer and project manager. My ability to take flights of fancy and think on my feet enables me to put forth ideas in my workplace and help the business succeed. That also helps me solve problems quickly too. I can run into a problem and have 5 possible solutions before I get across the office. I do not take any medications at this time, although I have in the past. The downsides of these two things is a tendency towards both depression and anxiety, especially in new situations. Behind a computer screen I'm an extrovert. In reality, I'm an introvert. I hate social situations, I never know what to say or do. I usually just hide in a corner, say the bare minimum to be polite and leave just as quickly as I can. I hate being outside my comfort zone, that is my home and my office. I don't do very well with change and it stresses me out beyond belief.

So, the bottom line is I'm pretty strange, don't like people much, don't like social situations much, but I excel in my little corner of the world. All three of my children have ADHD and my youngest also is on the spectrum. My grandchildren, well, the oldest is on the spectrum, the second one is on the spectrum with ADHD and the little one is too. I can trace my "issues" back on both sides of my family. It's not a "made up" disorder and it can't be "cured" by a good butt-whooping...Lord knows I had wooden spoons broken across my backside, belts that raised welts, you name it. It didn't help. It just made me quieter, more almost secretive and less trusting of the people who should have accepted me the way I am. By the way, I'm over 50...

can you say me it

Here in the US, Asperger's is no longer a diagnosis. I don't think this serves people with Asperger's well, but it does help a lot of other people more. The diagnosis now is ASD; the autism spectrum of disorders. This new diagnosis is incredibly helpful to so many because it recognizes that it's most common for people "on the spectrum" to have multiple challenges to cope with, and to become more aware of how to succeed. MustangGirl is evidently a great example of learning how to succeed, based on her post.

There are many theories about the cause, and that's most likely because there are many different causes. The most extreme cases I've encountered are twin boys who just turned 17. The theory that it is a seizure disorder seems to line up very well with these individuals. The idea is that low level seizures can go undetected, preventing development in specific areas. They are both obviously intelligent, but expanding vocabulary has just never happened. They can learn new words, but always at the expense of words they used to know. As their seizures have become more recognizable, it has become easier to see that when they lose the use of words they've been using it's in conjunction with having a seizure. This doesn't prove anything, but it sure seems like their nonverbal state is a seizure disorder affecting that part of the brain that involves speech. The book Silently Seizing covers this idea.

You asked about "substance," and that usually means nutrition in conjunction with ASD. Many do find they do much better with specific nutritional needs being addressed, but again this is very individualized. There isn't anything nutritionally that's been found to help across the board. And there's LOTS of different ideas about what to look for, what to try, how to test to see what might be needed and if it helps.

This doesn't begin to scratch the surface of all the different ideas about what causes ASD.

One theory that makes sense is when a child is born prematurely, there's an issue with the brain getting organized. ADHD and ASD is more common in those who did not have the advantage of a full 40 week gestational period. I was born about 4 weeks early. I was a fine size and had no problems, but my brain didn't have the time to finish developing. I was not formally diagnosed until I was in my early 30's which may have been an advantage, in that I just learned to cope and play to my strengths.

My specific challenges are in picking up social cues, offbeat obsessive behavior (like I'll watch the same movie over and over or listen to the same CD over and over or read the same book over and over), decidedly offbeat interests (space program, NASA, cars) and I'm a fountain of utterly useless trivia on certain subjects. Fortunately, most of my family and all of my friends accept me as I am...which helps. Thing is, my parents were the ones who swore up and down there was something "wrong" with me and told me I was, by turns, crazy (whatever that means), schizophrenic (I never heard voices), or a variety of other not very nice things. Meh...whatever. I've managed to forgive them and I hope they both accepted Christ before their deaths, although I'm not certain. Not my monkeys, not my circus, ya know?

ADHD, Autism, Alzheimer's etc. Has been linked to heavy metal intake such as from vaccines and tap water which are very high in aluminum and mercury. If you suffer from any of these a heavy metal detox is highly recommended. Also doing a Liver flush is highly recommended as well.

God has provided a cure for everything in his creation! If anyone ever tells you differently then they are either ignorant or lying. I don't subscribe to the whole "passed down through bad genes debacle" What is passed down is bad habits. Poor nutrition, bad eating habits, toxic chemicals in the home, ad infinitum. While there are exceptions to that they are few and far between. The MSME has picked up on this and uses it as an excuse for poor treatment habits. Most so called diseases are merely nutritional deficiency's. Parts of the body are being starved of what they need and are dying because they are not being fed.

My fiancée has Aspergers. I don't think I really understand what it is other than a higher form of Autism. It makes absolutely no difference to me though. I love him very much and he loves me just as much. That's all that really matters to me. :)
