I'm one of those people who just *has* to find out what makes others tick. Well in this case, I was pondering- what makes the atheist mind tick? In particular, when I visit a Christian news website, there are ALWAYS the same crowd of mockers and scoffers who can't just leave people alone. So, I'm thinking- why are these people doing this? If they don't believe in God, why bother? I don't believe in the Hindu deities, but I'm certainly NOT going onto Hindu websites and mocking those people. If they want to believe in rainbow-colored gods with many arms- hey, have fun! Right? So why are the atheists going out of their way to attack us? And that's when it hit me. Atheism is like racism. Now I'm not saying that the atheist is racist, what I'm saying is that the atheist, in their attack on God in general, and Christians in particular, act no different from racists in their tactics. Racists will hide behind a veneer of intellectualism. They'll come up will all sorts of seemingly valid arguments as to why their particular race is superior. They'll even come off as seemingly non-partial and it's all a matter of "science" and "academic rigor". But you can tell that there is a air of arrogance. When you dig deeper into the heart of the matter, that arrogance is actually anger and hate. They hate other races and because blind hatred is never justifiable, they come up with reasons for their hate. But at the end of the day, they build their tower of arguments on a foundation of hate. And that is the same M.O. of the atheist- the scoffer- the "science" and "academic rigor" that they hide behind are nothing more than stones in a tower built on hate. Now, I know that God already talked about this in the Bible- "Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened." Romans 1:12- I had to learn the "hard way" and found that Yes, God's word is ALWAYS correct. These people hate God- with the same seething arrogance that racists have towards other races. And because of this, they will never leave us believers alone. Their hatred forbids it. So what do we do? I've already learned the hard way, you don't fight fire with fire- you don't meet hate with hate. You meet it with love. Love is the water that will put that fire out. God already told us that we are to love our enemies (Matthew 5:43-48). But how do we do that without being a doormat? Well according to Proverbs 15:1 "A gentle answer turns away wrath".
Personally I had that experience recently when an atheist made an angry comment to one of my youtube videos. I responded with gentleness twice and he ceased his tirade. But I also did not water down the gospel. I reminded him that God gave him the strength to overcome his issue and what a blessing he could be to those who are still suffering. I could tell by his final comment, I had "killed him with kindness" and that is what God says in Romans 12:20 "Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head." However though, there will be some who are un-reachable and you will have to cut your losses and just walk away and let God deal with them. Rest assured though, if they continue to spew their hate-speech, God will not be so gentle with them! "And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city." Matthew 10:14-15.
Hopefully my learning experience will benefit you all as it has greatly benefited me.

Excellent Regina! I studied Racism and its roots in history for a paper I wrote on the Propagation of Institutionalized Racism and you are 100% correct. Many atheists are exhibiting the exact same set of assumption based beliefs. Gestalt psychologists had a term for this incorporation/justification approach to "beliefs". They called it "Introjection" which means to swallow something whole usually based on denial to support a behavior pattern or else based on the opinion of someone or group that appears to be authoritative. Also I love the cartoon (LOL!).

I have never met a real Atheist, there are none to meet. You have to see this for what it is.

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness; Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
(Rom 1:18-21)

Everything that was made, know there is a God, and everything made clearly understood there is a God. Even the Rocks know there is a God and will move into the sea at his command. They knew, but refused to submit and reasoned out in their own think why there can't be a God. This reasoning darkened their heart to escape in their own mind any ramification that may come on them for not being thankful to God and acknowledging him. Everyone knows though, despite that wall they have built to say it's not so, and do their own wickedness in life without the thought of repercussions.

If you don't truly believe in something, then defense mechanisms built by reasoning to protect you from it don't surface.

I don't believe in Bigfoot. If someone tells me they saw Bigfoot or wants to prove there are Bigfoots, then I have nothing to say against that. Because Bigfoot presents no threat to me, I never had a need to come up with reasons why there are no Bigfoot's.

Now if you bring up Ghost, you will hear lots more from me. By scripture there can be no Human Ghost running around, but in the past arguments seemed plausible so I had to dig in the Word to further my foundation and protect myself from that false belief. So, Mentioning Ghost will bring up my defenses.

I understand what you are saying in your post, but it also makes a large assumption that I should point out is not entirely accurate.

Atheism just means that a person doesn't believe in a god or gods. Everything else tend to depend on the personal philosophy of the person.
For instance, here are some examples of Atheist world views.

Antithiest ( person who is against religion as a social and political concept)
Nihilist (person who things there is no intrinsic meaning to the universe or existence)
Objectivism ( person who rejects superstition and holds the rights of man as the objective standard)
Secular Humanist ( A non religious person who focuses on the rights and needs of mankind)
L Satanist ( anti Christian who mock Christianity specifically and follow the writings of Anton Levay)
Agnostic Atheist ( a person who is not religious but hold the possibility of god(s) existing, but don't see them as a main point in their life philosophy)

There are more, but these tend to be the most common.

I think a problem is that since Christianity is the most prominent religion in the US, and has had the most impact on US culture, people who leave Christianity tend to go through a phase of being antagonistic. Many grow out of it, but since the internet gives a blanket of anonymity and a lack of consequences people tend to be more rough around the edges.

I used to frequent an Atheist themed forum, but left due to it just being people talking about the same things. Creationism, New Age healers, the same political free speech stuff over and over, etc. It go boring. However in the recent years there has been a lot of fracturing. When sites like Free Thought Blogs and YouTube first opened up, Atheists banded together because they finally could find each other. Now that its been years later, the groups are fracturing and spreading. Mainly because the only thing uniting most of these people was that they didn't believe in god(s). Political and philosophical differences arose and now there are multiple forums and different groups for different peeps.

The people I think you are mostly talking about sound like young people who just found a new toy or learned something new and want to share it with the world. The thing is every group ( including Christians) fall into this trap on the internet. You could be talking about your love for the first season of Boy Meets world and you'd get the same vitriol. Its the sad reality of the internet. :p

Hello, I've been here for years. We've even talked. I'm a real atheist, I don't believe in a god.

(Rom 1:18-21)

This is actually circular logic. It can be broken down into a statement of its true because X says its true, and that statement is true because X says it can't be wrong. Its shifting the burden away from the person making the claim. If a person says X exists but their evidence is that X exists because X says that everyone believes X, its nothing but a frustrating loop because its unfounded.

If you don't truly believe in something, then defense mechanisms built by reasoning to protect you from it don't surface
You are ignoring a major aspect though. If you don't believe X, naturally you won't care about x. If X used to be a part of your life and you thought you believed it, and a large aspect of the culture and people around you support X, you will inevitably being asked about your position. You can run into the same arguments for X repeatedly and eventually just get frustrated with the whole situation.

It would be similar to if you were at a party and asked if you wanted cake. You don't feel like cake so you politely decline. Then you are asked again by a few other guests and they try to convince you to eat cake because cake is good and they love the cake. You don't necessarily have anything against cake, but you just don't feel like cake or maybe you are diabetic and trying to be polite. Then someone comes up to you and says that you can't actually not want cake, everyone wants cake and I simply don't believe you don't want cake. Its absurd. You could be asked why you came to the party if you didn't want cake. There could be other reason you came to the party, you could have just wanted to wish someone well, you could have just enjoyed the company of some of the people, you could be bored, you could simply just like being at parties. Etc. Get what I'm saying.

I don't believe in Bigfoot. If someone tells me they saw Bigfoot or wants to prove there are Bigfoots, then I have nothing to say against that. Because Bigfoot presents no threat to me, I never had a need to come up with reasons why there are no Bigfoot's.
What if people tried to convince you actually secretly believe there is a bigfoot? What if you were considered part of the most untrusted groups in the country because you didn't believe in BF? What if people thought you were more likely a bad person (thief, drug addict, child molester, murderer, rapist) because you didn't believe in big foot?

Its a little bit more complicated than what you are making it sound.

Now if you bring up Ghost, you will hear lots more from me. By scripture there can be no Human Ghost running around, but in the past arguments seemed plausible so I had to dig in the Word to further my foundation and protect myself from that false belief. That sounds similar to why many don't believe in god(s).

Recently I was reading about two serial killers. I wondered what goes on inside the mind of these psychopaths that they could shrink to such depravity. I came to the same conclusion that you did about militant atheists--they are full of hatred. Their random, but pre-meditated sexual violence is not about sex, or even about power as many psychologists will say. They are simply so overcome by hatred that it spills out of them in all kinds of violence. And pride in form of a deep seated narcissism--besides their violent dispositions--seems to be the distinguishing mark of these beasts.

This is the sad reality of how you view Christians look at unbelievers. It should be an indictment on those of us who believe. I do Apologize to you my friend. How you view Christians is OUR fault. We are not bringing the Good News to people anymore. We bring judgement and condemnation.
Religion is rampant in Christianity anymore.

If I was to guess, religion had a major role in your decision to leave Christianity?

One note though, If you ever did believe on Christ alone for your salvation. You just think and believe you are no longer a Christian.
2 Tim 2:13~~New American Standard Bible
If we are faithless, He remains faithful, for He cannot deny Himself.

Milk Drops, I apologize for those among us Christians who don't want to share the whole truth about sin, the judgment of sin, and the righteousness of God. Most unbelievers won't understand how important it was in this life to be told the whole truth about God's Judgment until it is too late.

This is the sad reality of how you view Christians look at unbelievers.
I actually think that most large groups act this way. Its not special to Christians and I wouldn't be here if I believed all Christians act this way. The sad reality is that I've had this situation happen in my life on multiple occasions. Even when I've out of my way to not bring up religion ( living in small towns where the local churches run most of the social events including non religious ones)

It should be an indictment on those of us who believe. I do Apologize to you my friend. How you view Christians is OUR fault. We are not bringing the Good News to people anymore. We bring judgement and condemnation.

As I mentioned, I don't really see Christians as any different than any other group, its not that its a religion, but its filled with people who are flawed.

If I was to guess, religion had a major role in your decision to leave Christianity?
It was actually a lot of factors and I made peace with most of them. I have nothing against Christianity as a religion, I just don't believe a majority of the claims.

One note though, If you ever did believe on Christ alone for your salvation. You just think and believe you are no longer a Christian.
I don't believe in the claims of Jesus, so I lack the very prominent aspect of being a Christian. Thanks for the response. :)

Thanks for the reply and as I mentioned I get why Chrisians hold many of the positions they hold, I just don't accept or believe all of it.

Saul was a serial killer and believed in the one true God Of Israel. Religion will do the same kind of killing.

That sounds similar to why many don't believe in god(s).

Scripture says your without excuse, you know, but are willfully ignorant their is a God.

That is scripture, and is true.

I have been here since 2008. You were 9 years old when I first started to study the Word. You have it all figured out, and know more than what the Word says. That is some amazing accomplishments at such a young age. Ones that will destroy you in the end if you continue on your current amazing accomplishments.

As I said, if you truly did not believe in god, you would not be posting here without a defense mechanism being set off. Your mission of unbelief and the fact you have been here since 2012 makes it very clear you are willfully deceiving yourself, as the scripture said. If you truly did not believe, you would not even care.

I think you really want some cake.

Thanks Jethro.

Christ paid for every sin that was ever or will ever be committed. And God Judged Sin,ALL sin, on the Cross.
1 John 2:2~~New American Standard Bible
and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world.

Since sin is finished. There is only one thing left.

John 16:9~~New American Standard Bible
concerning sin, because they do not believe in Me;

He even paid the price for unbelief. Judgment comes from our own self righteous DEEDS.

Rev 20:12~~New American Standard Bible
And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life; and the dead were judged from the things which were written in the books, according to their deeds.(ergon, not sins)

We were once like you..

Ephesians 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:

3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

Its not that you don't accept the truth, you can't accept it because as the scripture says, being "dead in trespasses and sins" prevents you from believing.. in short, your stuck..:missyou

Thanks for the info. As you can tell, the type of atheist I'm referring to are the anti-theists, the ones who go out of their way to harass, mock, and annoy people of faith. Check out the comments at "Christian news network" sometime and you'll see what I mean. Inevitably you'll read some comment along the lines of "your God is fake and you're ignorant, now let me enlighten you with my wisdom" nonsense. And my thought is...if you hate us so much...why bother posting?! I don't go looking for the atheist news and start thumping my Bible there! (I do that on my own youtube channel! LOL) Heck, I couldn't care less what someone does or doesn't believe (as long as they don't get all up in my grill)...all I want at the end of the day is for people to be decent and respectful to one-another. Can people just do that? Be decent?
