I believe that could very well be a true story. I've visited places in British Columbia, the Yukon, and the Alaska bush country where I've seen first hand giant grizzly bears roaming, sitting, and laying right in people's front yards. There are towns I've spent time in where bears actually outnumber the people! A lot of the people are so used to how to deal with them, they just shoe them away like most people would shoe a stray dog or cat out of their yard!
