Blessing for Dec.17th 2007

Genesis 2:2, 3

By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

Just a thought! Was God tired from working 6 days that He rested? Of course not! He cannot and does not tire because He is El Shaddai- Almighty God.

But we need to rest and recuperate because we are not yet like Him. A day off from work is a good thing, even if we are in the ministry. Spending time with family, meditating on God and His Word and just resting.

Just imagine, God telling the angels after 6 days of creation- I am taking a day off. No phone calls please and put that “Do not disturb†sign on my door.

To me the Sabbath day is also very important it backs up the fact that the whole world was created in 6 days not millions of years as the evolutionist and some Christians would have a person belive. Yes God set it up for rest in him and to keep that day Holy. Now I believe Everyday should be treated like the Sabbath day. It is good of you to bring this up. Sometimes what sounds like a very simple Bible fact. Goes much deeper than we think.

Of course God didn't need to rest, but he did. We need to rest and God well, being God, leads by example. Jesus summed it up nicely:

Mark 2:27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath:


We need that seventh day to rest and reflect on the awesomeness of God. All work and no "pray" makes us worn out, dried up and distant from the One who created us. 8-)
