It's just an old men's club for arts. In this case it's a camp ground that host a two week thing for the powerful who are invited.
The prominent of society have all sorts of clubs and organisations. Often these groups are very old and have adopted many traditions, some silly. This is a closed club by invitation only and the rest of us tend to look badly on that; "What could they be doing in there?" as it turns out...nothing. Having a few drinks, telling a few jokes, dinner....that's about it.
We do not live in a class-less society even though we like to think we do. People who are of the well-known, or wealthy, or both can not just show up anywhere and mix with anyone. They tend to form their own clicks and groups just like anyone else, but they do require special places where they can be comfortable. That's all this is.
For the average Joe and Jane American it's not the same because they are anonymous to much of society. Most people blend in to the back ground. They are not known for their deeds, or ideas, or thoughts, attachments or otherwise outside their small circles.
I'll bet you if you where invited to this Bohemian grove you'd be board.
