Are proverbs guarantees/promises from God or just general guidelines?

Proverbs are statements of wisdom. We would say now days, "words of wisdom".

You can trust that what a proverb from God says is true. But we should not try to interpret it to mean what we want, then trust that is true.

I know it might sound evasive, but proverbs are neither promises or not promises. They are just simple words of wisdom.

Proverbs 1
1 The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel:
2 To know wisdom and instruction, to understand words of insight,
3 to receive instruction in wise dealing, in righteousness, justice, and equity;
4 to give prudence to the simple, knowledge and discretion to the youth-
5 Let the wise hear and increase in learning, and the one who understands obtain guidance,
6 to understand a proverb and a saying, the words of the wise and their riddles.
7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverb -

Outline of Biblical Usage:

  1. proverb, parable
    1. proverb, proverbial saying, aphorism

    2. byword

    3. similitude, parable

    4. poem

    5. sentences of ethical wisdom, ethical maxims

What about Psalms? Are those promises/guarantees?
No, like proverbs, instead of being 'words of wisdom' they are "songs of praise".

The thing with both psalms and proverbs is they are the words of God, spoken through His servants. So some "could" be considered promises because they were prophecies. But in general, they are applications that express mans heart to God and His heart to us.

What is paramount is that ALL of them can be used to build your faith in God. That's something to know as an absolute.

Think of it this way. Proverbs give us insight to the mind of God. Psalms give us insight to the heart of God.
