Romans 12:1-2
12 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God./(KJV)

Now there is is no defeated ones born into the Kingdom of God. When we are 'born again' we receive the promises of eternal life, and a renewing of our mind. We become a new creature in Christ. Many do not act like it, and it is not instantaneous, it is a process. We will be changed into different people, but it does not happen of God alone, but by our own efforts of seeking God (faith without action is dead), and by the grace of God.

Romans 8:4-5
4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit./(KJV)

Now what's involved in being fleshy vs being being spiritual? What you "mind" That is what you think of.

6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace./(KJV)

Does it matter what you and I think on? According to this, it does! The difference between life and death! Thinking on the wrong thing ministers death to you. There are dangerous thoughts! Now the enemy can put thoughts into your head, but you don't have to receive it. Like a bird. You can't stop it from flying over your head, but you can stop it from building a nest on your head.We do have a choice what we think about. Some may say, oh i just can't stop thinking about XXXX...that's a lie! You can stop it. Scripture says to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life. There are certain thing that we are to think about, and other things that we are not to think about. Should we obey these scriptures? Some scripture says, 'think on this', other scriptures say, 'do not think on this'...our mind is our mind, we can choose what to think on. Do you believe this? It is true.

So in order to not be 'conformed' to this world, but to be 'transformed' by the renewing of your mind...you must do these things.

Philippians 4:8
8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things./(KJV)

Take hold of the negative thoughts and cast them down with all the lies, and remain thinking upon the Lord.

It took me years to figure that out!

I am not saying this statement is true or false- but what about the mentally ill? How would you apply this?

We're all born with the same blank sheet of paper for a mind. At some point in their life, the mentally ill began thinking too much on the wrong things, obsessing on the wrong things and lies. Apparently this opens the door to be able to lose your mind at some point. So this only goes to prove that thinking on the wrong things can be dangerous. It also brings us back to the scripture to bring up a child in the way that he should go, in the Lord.

I think that a lot of the mentally ill are sitting around telling themselves that they can not stop thinking wrong things, when in fact they could if they set their mind to it, and also called upon the Lord to help them.

There's more to mental illness than just thinking wrong.

Angel, I think that it applies to the mentally ill just as it does to anyone else. None of us are perfect people and the Lord is great in His mercy. We are individuals to Him, not stamped carbon copies. He looks at your heart, my heart to see if we desire Him and His thoughts and His ways. He has promised that the Holy Spirit who dwells in us will be the Comforter, Helper, I believe Him. But it's not always easy to put aside negative thoughts. I think that what is most important is that we don't dwell on sinful thoughts, those things can cause us to stumble. So when having trouble with those we have to make a conscious decision to distract ourselves from those thoughts. Some types of mental illness can make this process much more difficult I'm sure but I can tell you that the person bedridden from a physical illness in pain and frustration can also have a very difficult time with this. They too have to remind themselves of the mercy, and promises of our Lord. You are a very powerful witness for our Lord on this forum, He is busy working a work in you.

God knows and sees the minds of the mentally ill and He knows their illness better than they do.God has compassion and understanding so it is ok.

I've heard of a few instances of the mentally ill being totally healed by the Lord. One guy, Gary Whetstone was on Sid Roth's "It's Supernatural" (that's a good one to watch), and there's even scripture about it. The lunatik who was always running around naked and chains couldn't hold him.

The thing is, outside of direct intervention of the Lord, we can get peace of mind through the obeying of what scriptures tell us...think on these things...don't think on those things...it even says this

Isaiah 26:3
3 You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You./(KJV)

Yes,God can heal if it is His will.Like the song "If The Healing doesn't Come". That is possible and our Lord has a plan for our lives but His understanding is beyond our own.

If it is His will, sister? Let's take a look at scripture and see if it is Gods will for us to be healed...

Luke 5:12-13
12 And it came to pass, when he was in a certain city, behold a man full of leprosy: who seeing Jesus fell on his face, and besought him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.

13 And he put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will: be thou clean. And immediately the leprosy departed from him./(KJV)

So the man with leprosy asked Jesus if it is His will to heal him. Jesus answered him very directly. "I will"
The Lord does not change, and is no respecter of persons, so his will to heal anyone is exactly the same as the scripture says.

The Lords thoughts are higher than our thoughts of course, but this doesn't mean that we can not have His thoughts. The entire bible is the Lords thoughts, and to know his will and thoughts, we are to simply be transformed by the renewing of our mind by searching the scriptures daily and meditating on His Words.

Romans 12:1-2
12 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

There are instances of people having problems or being born with maladies, so that the glory of God can be revealed. Like the man who was blind from birth in scripture so that Jesus could heal him.

And our Lord also uses people with disabilities of all sorts to draw others to personal relationships with Him. Our Lord knows what He is about; He knows our hearts, each of us. His plan for each of us varies according to our personal strengths and weaknesses, but ultimately, He loves us regardless.
