child goddess

Yeah, that is wrong and ridiculous. It is ridiculous to consider a human a god when there is the alternative of an invisible, inactive, undetectable sky being.

What's so sad about it? I mean, other than the fact their religious views are a polar opposite of yours? The child seems happy, healthy and is being given an education to boot. She doesn't even have the burden of "imparting wisdom". She is just believed to be a reincarnation of a goddess...there is no abuse, no sadness...just a different belief. I think it's very interesting and different, but not sad.

The fact that their religious belief is a bad one. The poor girl is being told a lie. She is no more god than we are. ...and we are not god either. It's going to be a big letdown when she discovers she falls short of godhood.

I hope that the let down leaves her falling into the arms of the Savior.

This is Satan's lie and half-truth. He spoke to Adam and Eve in the garden from earliest times about being gods. He was right in a sense, but the way to go about it was wrong. This girl and the rest of us can be as God if we trust in Christ. God wanted us to take from the tree of Life to become as Him. Since Adam failed, that is now thru Christ. That is the only way we become "gods".

Adam and Eve is one of my favorite stories in the Bible. Lots of good symbolism and many ways to intepret it. The interesting part here is Genesis 3: 4-5 and 3:21-24:

"You will not surely die," the serpent said to the woman. "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."
...
The LORD God made garments of skin for Adam and his wife and clothed them. And the LORD God said, "The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever." So the LORD God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.

A few comments on this:

1. The serpent is not Satan because the serpent is cursed to crawling on the ground and Satan is walking later.

2. The serpent was right that they would not die if they ate the fruit. There was nothing to imply that Adam and Eve were immortal.

3. The correct interpretation should be "of knowledge of good through evil" or in other words "knowledge of everything."

4. God talks about Adam being like "us." The Hebrews were polytheistic for awhile and God (Yahweh) was talking to the host (or the other gods).

5. God shows that to become a god, you need knowledge and immortality. The story implies that God banishes humans out of worring they may become gods moreso than because they disobeyed.

But then I am just reading this as a myth, so feel free to disagree and ignore anything I said. :)

I don't think that the girl thinks she's perfect. She just believes that the spirit of the goddess is in her, and she seems happy with the way people are treating her. As far as I can tell from the article she doesn't even have to give people 'godly' wisdom or advice. She spends time at the temple, and people come and worship her. She even knows that she will not be a goddess all her life, so it's not like she has a lifelong thing to live up to. I'm not saying the belief is correct, but I have yet to understand why it is sad or harmful.

(Of course, anything that doesn't have your copy of Christianity in it is harmful according to most of you, so really asking the question is pointless. Still...)

Heh, consider that done without asking...

The reason it's SAD is because she is being totally DECEIVED by Satan!

Yes, you are right. They seem very happy and content.........until they drop into hell at least.

Wrong is wrong no matter how fluffy it seems on the outside.

Update and excerpts on this: Yahoo News:

KATMANDU, Nepal - A 10-year-old Nepalese girl was stripped of her title as a living goddess because she traveled overseas to promote a documentary about the centuries-old tradition, a news report said Tuesday.

...

Sajani is among several "Kumaris," or living goddesses, in Nepal, but as one of the kingdom's top three, is forbidden from leaving the country.

...

Temple officials will replace Sajani when she returns to Nepal later this week, the report cited Joshi as saying.

Living goddesses are worshipped by both Hindus and Buddhists. The girls are selected between the ages of 2 and 4 after going through several tests.

They are required to have perfect skin, hair, eyes and teeth, they shouldn't have scars or wounds, and shouldn't be afraid of the dark.

...

Nepalese folklore holds that men who marry a former Kumari will die young, and so many girls remain unmarried and face a life of hardship.

Critics have said the tradition violates both international and Nepalese laws on child rights.

Wow that is some deep stuff. And it could also leave some scars on that girl' for years to come.

I am so glad that my God only looks at the heart and is no respecter of people. We can rejoice that He's not like man!
