This Week's Prayer Guide
April 6 - This week, pray for the needs of the people of Shenzhen. Pray for the church to be a Christlike witness to their friends, neighbors, coworkers, and family members.
April 7 - A pastor in Shenzhen says, “A significant challenge of ministering here is that it's a young city with a highly mobile population. This high mobility makes pastoral care difficult, as young people often change cities or locations when they change jobs.” Pray for for wisdom in pastoral care among such a young and highly mobile population.
April 8 - Conversely, a pastor in Shenzhen shares a positive aspect of ministering to such a young city: “There's less pressure from traditional family influences. If some brothers and sisters, or some friends, accept the gospel, there's less resistance from their families. This is a positive aspect of this city.” Praise God for the lesser family pressure on young people, and pray that the Holy Spirit would use this opportunity to draw more young people to Christ.
April 9 - A pastor in Shenzhen says, “We are now focusing on middle-aged people who have come to faith but whose parents haven't, especially those whose parents live in their hometowns. The elderly are also very lonely now, and the generation gap between them and young people is widening, resulting in many empty nesters. So, we are working on reaching out to these parents who haven't yet believed.” Pray for this church as they reach out to the elderly population around them.
April 10 - “This area is full of various religions,” says one Shenzhen pastor. “Islam, Tibetan Buddhism, those practicing witchcraft, health cults, Confucianism, Buddhism, and even those involved in dark arts. It's a very complex place. So, while the political environment seems relatively relaxed, the spiritual atmosphere is actually quite pressured. But God must be glorified here.” Pray for the Lord to draw people to himself from among these different religions.
April 11 - “Even now,” says a pastor in China, “after the pandemic, Shenzhen's economy is declining, leading to increased unemployment and salary reductions for our brothers and sisters. This has put greater pressure on them, especially financially.” Pray for those in Shenzhen who are facing difficulty because of the strained economy.
April 12 - Another pastor in Shenzhen speaks about the economy: “Though China's overall economy is declining, Shenzhen has still been ranked third in China in recent years in terms of GDP. And I've noticed that in the past two or three years, some institution conducted a survey on the attractiveness of post-95 talent, and Shenzhen seems to be ranked first. This means that young people are constantly coming to this city. So, I think Shenzhen is still a large harvest field. The challenge is how we can effectively spread the gospel.” Pray for more workers to be sent into this harvest field.
