Church and Israel

Complex question :)

But simply put: The church is the spiritual fulfillment of Israel (also called the church in the wilderness)

Act 7:37 This is that Moses, which said unto the children of Israel, A prophet shall the Lord your God raise up unto you of your brethren, like unto me; him shall ye hear.
Act 7:38 This is he, that was in the church in the wilderness with the angel which spake to him in the mount Sina, and with our fathers: who received the lively oracles to give unto us:

So, whatever happened or happens to Israel in the physical, will happen to the church spiritually. They are our own private prophecy. They are the type and shadow.

1Co 10:1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;
1Co 10:2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
1Co 10:3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;
1Co 10:4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.
1Co 10:5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.
1Co 10:6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

Cornelius,

I was wondering where the expression 'the church in the wilderness' came from.

Basically, we seem to have an analogy of salvation of Israel (with the church)- all Israelites were 'baptised unto Moses' ....and later some Israelites fell in the wilderness.

The church in the wilderness is to suffer the same 'fate' - all Christians start as being baptised into Christ -- but as the church must begin its journey in the wilderness - some Christians will be overthrown in the wilderness.

Is this how you read it?

amen C well said

We are shown the Israel IS an elect nation. But we see from paul some telling things, we see that not all of Israel ARE israel, we also see that those in israel who were of the election obtained the promise the rest were cut off. If we look into this we see that the sinners of israel were always to be cut off from israel only those who walked in holiness were suppose to stay part of th body of Israel.

In Christ we have been grafted in, and all who were of unbelief were cut off, only by faith can they be grafted back in. The only TRUE Israel is the holy elect nation and that is made of ALL BELIEVERS in Christ Jesus. There are many who are physical israel but in reality they are not, they are just of the flesh and are cut off until they come to faith.
