“Clothed With Love”
By Zach Wood
Colossians 3:12 (NLT)
“Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.”

Many of us, if not most, enjoy wearing clothes that look good on us. I don’t think any of us would choose to wear clothes we don’t like or wear something that looks awful. We want to look good with what we have on. While it’s good to want to look good with what we wear on different occasions, we can also take that a little too far. We can become fashion gurus and be a little too concerned about always having the best clothes from the best department stores.

We want to look good. I get it. We make sure that we look modest wherever we go. We wear the proper attire to whatever event we are attending. We want to make sure we are prepared to wear what is expected. Again, it’s great to be prepared and mindful of these things so that we don’t go somewhere overdressed or underdressed.

When I consider how important fashion is to so many people, I think about how God asks us to clothe ourselves with His attributes as we live our lives each day. What message are we sending people these days? Are we living out the Godly attributes He is seeking in us? Are we showing people mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience? Sadly, I think we are often showing people the complete opposite.

We are way too wrapped up in our daily routines and our wants and desires that we forget how much people need to see God through us. We get so much more concerned about how we like things to be and what we want out of people. We become so much more focused on our success and how we can look good and sometimes walk all over people to get what we want.

We seriously need to clothe ourselves with these attributes so that others see Him through us. It’s a simple concept, yet so hard to live out. I think often about my daily life and how others at work each day are looking at me. Do they see love or judgment? Do they hear words of encouragement or words of gossip? Do they see genuine concern or someone who doesn’t really care?

I hope and pray that it is our desire to ultimately show other people, whatever we do or say, that we are different and filled with God’s love.
