The 75-year-old Pakistani immigrant convicted in Brooklyn of beating his wife to death because she served him lentils instead of goat should get the minimum sentence, his lawyer argued Wednesday — because the lack of Pakistani food behind bars will be a hardship.

I think they'd have a hard time winning that case. If his preference for certain food were a requirement of his religion, then he might have a case, but Islam doesn't require Pakistani food. That's just a cultural preference, and if that were allowed, then the prisons would have to provide Italian food for Italian prisoners, French food for French prisoners, Japanese food for prisoners of Japanese descent and so on. It could obviously never work, so I don't think any judge would agree to it.

the florida prison system must serve kosher food for inmates. the man is a mulsim . there are cultural foods unique to that area and prescribe by islam in that nation.
I may be mistaken but I recall some things that are like that in that area.

I think they do it if it's a requirement based on the inmate's religion. I'm not so sure they'd do it if it's a cultural preference. Islam forbids the eating of certain animals, and requires that animals that are eaten be slaughtered according to specific rules. So long as they provide food that complies with those rules, I don't think he would have a case, although you can never be sure about these things.

what ever happened to bread and water.

Unless I'm mistaken, bread and water would comply with the Islamic dietary rules.

bread and water is only for those that are punished for bad behavior. legally in my state we can deny inmates that for a three day period and a week for food. besides inmates feed inmates. they cook for themselves.
