Cross or Cross piece ?

did Jesus carry a cross or just the horizontal cross piece which was hurled up the vertical tree stump already in place and then nailed etc - twinc

I believe it was only the Cross piece! because Christ is represented thoughout the OT as the "Ox" that is to be "yoked" with our burdens! As he went forward with what looked as a "yoke" he was fulfilling that picture as the "bearer of burdens"

Now of course you might be able to say that He carried both pieces? and I dont disagree, but to fulfill the scriptures He need only that which represents the "yoke"

Interesting thread, this might take a little investigation. The debate I think is going to be what shape was the cross. I know the traditional cross was what we see today. But there is some that say the cross the romans used was a straight pole, with the hands above the head.

Well now that is a very sad thing! For the scriptures are pretty clear!



Isa 25:11



And he shall spread forth his hands in the midst of them, as he that swimmeth spreadeth forth his hands to swim: and he shall bring down their pride together with the spoils of their hands.

Even as Moses lifted his rod, he showed us the picture of the Cross!

Isa 65:2



I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, which walketh in a way that was not good, after their own thoughts;

We see the picture over and over in Scripture of His Cross! not sure why any would try to change that, other than to confuse the truth with nonsense?

What are your sources? where do you get this cross?

Thanks for clarification. I had forgot about those scriptures with the picture of the cross. The source was wikipedia, it talked of both styles. But if it is in scripture, who am I to argue.

Been doing a little research on the subject. From what I've seen, will have to agree with mitspa. I think it was just the cross piece.
