What's the most repellent book you've read this year?

I've just finished a disgraceful novel called The Armageddon Conspiracy by someone called Mike Hockney. It completely turns the Bible on its head, brands Christ as evil (and claims that he arranged the execution of John the Baptist) and says that all Christians, Muslims and Jews are Satan worshippers. It's written from the point of view of Gnostic heretics and glorifies Simon Magus.

Can anyone recommend a good thriller that actually manages to portray Christianity in a positive light for a change? I'm sick of seeing all of my beliefs mocked and dragged through the gutter.

I suppose I would like to say that Mr Hockney is going to hell for writing such a wicked book, but he claims earth is in fact hell. Dan Brown was also influenced by Gnosticicism. Why is there this sudden interest in these ancient heretical ideas? Why aren't more people preaching against it? I see gnosticism as dangerous, toxic and sinful.

I suppose people will wonder why you didn't put the book down, and why you finished reading it. Inquiring minds want to know! :-D I know that I have a hard time finishing even a Godly book written by an esteemed writer, so if I ever came across something offensive, I'd burn it asap before reading to the end of the page.

So, what compels you to pursue the end of the book?

There are alot of christian thrillers....spiritual warfare thriller books. Have you tried the trilogy by Melanie Wells #1. When the Day of Evil Comes #2. Soul Hunter #3. My Soul to Keep They're real page turners. Or Frank Peretti This Present Darkness/Piercing the Darkness series, or Vanished. Go to your local christian book store and they'll help you. I read a book by Francine Rivers titled "Redeeming Love", though it wasn't a thriller, I have got to tell you that is one of the best books I have ever read. There were times I got mad, got disgusted, got to laughing, got to crying and times that the love of Christ shine through so powerful that I would grab my pillow and just sob my eyes out for a good half hour, and the ending? Man it through me over the edge in sobbing tears of joy.....great, great book.....I'd give it four gold stars!!! I'm a real busy person, but I tell you every minute of chance I got I carried the book with me just to be able to grab a couple of pages. Same way with the Melanie Wells trilogy, every opportunity I got to grab a couple of pages, I did. Hope in Christ this helps. I enjoyed the Left Behind Series too for a good read.

Kudos HIM,
Carol

I got to add this, anything outside of God's Word there are going to be moments of disgust because nobody has it a 100 % when writing books, personal thoughts/ideas and quirks are bound to overflow in the authors writings. Reading any christian book is like eating fish....you spit out the bones and eat the meat. If you stay in the Word then you'll know the difference. But I got to say I do have one weakness that helps me get through those moments when I read something that I've concluded as bones. Sometimes it's just so far fetch from the Word that I got this bull sticky stuff Button of my husbands with about 12 verbal examples. Though rare I have smacked my hand down on it a few times because to be honest I couldn't classify it as anything else.
