Do you know any Mennonites? Should Christians follow their example and wear coverings for their hair? Not all Mennonites follow that dress code, but many do. In the Church, the women wear a head covering and similar dress styles. The men wear slacks and button downed shirts, and usually long sleeve.

I actually like the Mennonites, even though some stick to a strict but modest dress code. But what is Biblical?

A 'dress code' is not Biblical. Fathers and husbands should determine what's modest, or what's not, for their families, but I think we should all be careful to not become legalistic...it leads to self-righteousness. It's really best to be led by the Holy Spirit and allow Him to change us so that we are truly seeking to please Him alone in this area. As far as the head covering, the Bible does not teach that women should always have their heads covered, but it does teach that they should have their heads covered in the assembly for God's glory. (1 Corinthians 11)

As far as the Amish/Mennonites, we use some of their study materials and we do love them, but some of the doctrine is off and extra Biblical in my opinion. The Lord bless you.

I know a few Mennonites from the Christian school I graduated from.

They were very nice and sincere.

In fact, there is a fairly large community of Mennonites here. Their rules are pretty strict, and similar to Amish life, just not as extreme with the rejection of technology. They didn't own TVs, they made most of their food from scratch, and their dress code was very close to what people wore in the 50's-60's era, plus the white head covering.

They make the best homemade food too :D

I agree, Vault. We have a large settlement in this area and they seem to live out their faith without hypocrisy. And boy can they cook up some good food!

The only problem I had with the Mennonites at my school was being scarred for life at lunch.

I can still vividly remember holding my room temperature ham and cheese sandwich that had the hint of paper bag in each bite, while watching them chow down on hot and steamy casseroles. I would sit near them and take a deep breath to fill my senses with the creamy, rich smell of a casserole made with fluffy mashed potatoes, savory cheddar cheese, garden vegetables, and tender bits of chicken.

I would hold my breath with that smell and then eat a bite of my stale sandwich made with water pressed packaged ham, over processed cheese product, and commercial mustard.

For a brief moment, I would could almost pretend that my paper bag lunch was as enjoyable as their lovingly made home cooked casserole.

Well, a bit of exaggeration there :D, but they really were the envy of the school cafeteria full of children eating paper bag lunches, or the hot pockets and frozen burgers the school sold.

:yes This reminds me of when a Mennonite friend invited me to her place for supper. I was a bit dubious because they were vegetarians and I didn't think I'd like the food. Boy, was I ever wrong. The casserole was just as light and fluffy as Vault remembers, the carrots and beans were done just right and seasoned with honey and herbs, the cheese was made from the milk from their goats and was superb and the berry pie was to die for. I LOVED going to eat there.

I am on a diet in order to lose the 30 unemployed pounds that I felt badly for and put to work on my mid section, while being mostly unemployed myself. I am obsessed with food of course right now.

Mmm apple pie fresh out of the oven so it melts your scoop of real vanilla bean ice cream just slightly to form a delicate creamy drizzle over the pie and around your plate. Before taking each warm and flaky bite, you swirl it around that oh so rich pool of white sweet cream.

The pie is so warm that it burns your tongue enough that you are forced to immediately make a spoon full of cold ice cream its roommate in your mouth to cool it down. This creates a taste sensation of apple tart and vanilla sweet that causes you to imagine that you are floating on sun-warmed white clouds.

Wow. That felt like diet therapy.

Typing that almost makes me feel like I ate this:

Thankfully I am able to take a bite of the debt supported government waste spending. With help from my older sister, I have landed a 3yr contract job for Fluor's new baby, the Savannah River Site in GA.

I am having to move a few hours away, but am happily doing so since I have been mostly unemployed for a year now, working only part time here and there to barely stay afloat.

And to add icing to an already sweet cake, even factoring 0 benefits because of being a contract employee, I will be making 50-75% more than my last real job. I was crossing my fingers hoping to get close to what I used to make in order to be financially secure again, but to hear the offer they gave me yesterday on the phone, I had to paper bag breathe to not pass out.

Now I just need to waste these 30 pounds I picked up being a bum so I do not have to buy a new wardrobe of dress clothes for work.

Moral of the story, don't leave a good job for a chance to better your career unless you are absolutely certain it will work out. Especially right before the economy slows down and jobless and layoff rates sharply rise.

I honestly was thinking that I would be forced to file bankruptcy because I have used up every last penny of my savings staying afloat, and finding a job around here right now is nearly impossible even with a degree since company after company is seeing 25% worker reductions with layoffs. Jobs are still shrinking while the competition for the remaining jobs is growing.

Now I am looking at paying off my $25k debt in less than a year of penny pinching and raman noodles. All thanks to the massive debt the government is building to support our economy with magic tricks and waves of the hand.

I am originally from Augusta, GA (which is where I will be living) so most of my family, outside my immediate, live there as well as some old childhood friends I will look up. Won't really be like moving to a strange place at all, plus I am coming from Greenville, SC, so home is close enough to come back on some weekends to visit my friends and family here.

I am so happy to come out of the dark cloud of unemployment and uncertainty about the future. Being unemployed is a terrible feeling since your bills and living expenses don't become unemployed with you. It's really hard to not drown in your troubles, and fall into the self pity mode and just give up.

I have been getting on everyones nerves because its the only thing I talk or think about since finally knowing it was a sure thing and a start date. I feel like a won the lottery lol.
