When I read about multinational firms in USA and Europe setting up businesses in countries like Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and parts of Africa. I ask how do these people sleep dont they have a conscience.
How can they pay people in sweat shops for less than one US dollar a day.
Those in Africa young children toiling in gold mines for the rich and famous.
The Caribbean has a good functioning democracy, proper infra structure, but yet these people do come here and set these kind of businesses..They know that they cannot pay slave wages to people here.
I don't believe that a person has to be a Christian in order to give a fair wage for fair days work.
What can one US dollar buy.
Here in Barbados our dollar is tied to the US dollar.
For one US dollar we have two Barbados dollars.
Two Barbados dollars or one US dollar can buy.
(1) one bus ticket on the bus with 50 cents change
(2) Two apples
(3) Two bananas
I guess there may other small items that can be bought for one US dollar, but when you consider the large families that are in these countries how can these people pay this kind of wage. I believe the government are to blame too allowing their citizens to be paid starvation wages.
The sad part is that these corporations get these products cheap, and then sell them at exhorbitant prices...all the brand names. It is sickening. One day God will remove the financial institutions and the money grabbers and a change will come.
