Eli is Eleazar, the son of Aaron!

Can someone please explain who Eli was? The bible says he was the (high) priest at Shiloh during the time of Samuel the prophet, which would have to make him a son of Aaron. The problem is, only Joshua and Caleb were said to be the only ones to leave Egypt that entered the promise land. There are several passages that contradict this theory and causes me to conclude that Eli is/was Eleazar, the son of Aaron.
