Exorcist: The Beginning

Maybe it was me, but I did NOT enjoy this movie at all. :-? I thought it was poorly made and didn't like the storyline at all. And neither my husband nor I can really figure out what it had to do with the original Exorcist except that the main character is the old priest at a younger age......or something like that.

I've also heard that its not that good, I haven't seen it yet but I want to. The original Exorcist was a great movie and I liked #3 too. I was hoping "The Beginning" would be a decent movie but it sounds like its not. Bummer....!!

I love scary movies, so I was hoping that this one would be similar to the first, but it's hard to outbeat the first in ANY movie it seems. It was pretty dumb if you ask me. It could have been much better if they maybe had different actors/actresses, if it took place in a different location, and.....well, actually if they just re-wrote the entire thing!
:-?

Yeah, thats really the truth too. I wonder how "The Ring 2" will turn out? I also want to see "White Noise" too. Too bad its going to be awhile before either makes it to dvd.

If you like scary movies and you haven't already seen them, try to find the movies called "Frailty" and "Session 9". "Session 9" doesn't have any big name actors (David Caruso from CSI is the only one I recognized). Its a very creepy movie though.

"Frailty" has Bill Paxton and Matthew McConaughey. It goes from normal to psychotic very quickly. I was still talking about this movie long after I watched it.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'm always looking for good movies. I think I remember hearing about Frailty. I don't think I've seen it though. I've never heard of Session 9. I'll make sure to check them out.

I heard that White Noise was good, but really had no ending or purpose. It just left you there going "Ummm....ok".

A couple we know invited us over to watch this movie. They wouldn't stop talking while the movie was playing so I have no idea what it was about, I must not have missed much. :-?

Observation

I just came accross this forum area and the first thing that struck my mind was:

"What are christians doing watching movies like this??"

But I'm not condemning anyone or judging anyone - I was just a bit surprised at first. Although I have seen the first movie when I was younger - but I also wasn't a christian then. But aren't these kind of movies drawing people into evil things? I mean look at society today - Aren't movies like this partly responsible for the whole leading astray of so many of Americas youth? - away from the gospel - encouraging interest in the worshiping of other gods and false doctrines?

You are right bjdea1, and I am guilty as charged.

It's easy to get desensitized in areas that you were once sensitive to.
I appreciate you bringing this to my attention, but don't fret because God is already on it I assure you.
I just stated over the weekend that we have really been compromising in the movie department, and that as for me there would be nothing else but family type movies.
We cut our cable off a couple of years ago to keep the trash out, and over the past few months we've found ourselves watching more and more worldly crap. I plan on keeping godly standards as to what comes into our home and into our minds in the future.

But demons are REAL. The first movie, even though it did have cursing and things that I wouldn't let a child/teen watch, it portrayed what could possibly happen to a person that was posessed. That's why I didn't see anything wrong with it.

But this movie was just plain DUMB. :-?

Response

Ok fair enough - I don't want to be a Pharisee and be self righteous here because I'm no angel when it comes to self discipline etc myself. I just thought it a little odd to see this kind of movie in a christian forum - but yes such things are real.

But I don't know something in my gut just tells me its a bit off - sorry thats just the way I feel. I saw the original movie as giving people more of a fascination and interest in evil rather than keeping people away from it.

Personally I think its better to watch as many christian tyoe movies/documentaries as you can - you just get so much more out of them. Like just recently I watched the documentary "Countdown to Eternity" and seriously the kind of infomation this documentary presents about prophecy and the end of the Age and all the things happening now showing us we are in the Last Days - this kind of stuff really motivates and edifies and serves to focus you better on whats important. I've watched it 4 times now and I can honestly say I am learning more each time I watch it - I just wish there were more of these type of videos out there.

Not only worse than the first movie, but an embarassment to it.

I can't sit through it again.

Story line was rather stupid. Concept was stupid. It wasn't even creative or elaborate.

I expected the devil not to behave like a blithering idiot, which was a disappointment.

I could go on... but it's pointless.

I'm working on a flash animation that will be a parody of this movie. It's called, The Exorcist: The forgetting

Man.. I hate this movie.

After seeing the movie, I'm embarrassed to say I liked it... , except for the ending. The ending was bad. To be honest, I'm not even sure why I liked it but I did. :-?
