Do any of you play fantasy games(Elder Scrolls, LOTR, D&D, etc)? I know there's a thread already about this, but it's a month old and I don't want to bump it. Also why do some Christians get mad at different Fantasy things(Harry Potter for example)? You aren't actually using magic.

Elder scrolls is awesome. I have yet to play oblivion though...

I was addicted to Oblivion for a looong time.

I just started playing through Oblivion...

Kinda just melts time away, much like Wow did when I was playing that...

I beaten everything in the game(including Knights of the Nine download) except a few daedric quests and some side quests. I don't play it much anymore since I got my Wii(Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess is amazing).

Actually, i'm having problems fiding quests. I mean, I have one going right now, but no one I talk to gives me anything to do. *shrug*

Well maybe, but I mean why people hate Harry Potter, stuff like that. I know witchcraft is wrong, but it's just fiction. Fact. Not real. Besides Harry is a hero who does show some Christina morals. For instance a year back my sister bought this book talking about how Christianity is in Harry Potter. I got one talking about the same thing in Star Wars(still have yet to finish it).

Let me ask you this: Does Harry Potter and others make you think upon the Lord? Do they help you in your worship on Him? Is giving your Lord honor and praise the first thing on your lips when you read and listen to those other things?

Philippians 4:7-9

And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. 9The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.

The Gospel tells me and shows me to be kind, selfless, turn the other cheek, etc. It brings me hope in this dark life. Then Harry Potter puts me in a deep, rich, storyline, that shows fictional characters having Christian morals. So yes it does help.

Having morals that align with Christianity is one thing.

Having Christian morals that are rooted in Christ is something else completely.

Which one do you believe is Biblical?

God is to be the first thing in your life

But there's nothing wrong with having a hobby

I would say that just because something is not Christian doesn't mean it's Anti Christian or against God

but like everything else it can be overdone

anyone play Kingdom Under Fire?

Hmm... what does the Scripture have to say about "undead mage"?

Do you think it is something to laugh at or about?

Wow ... 68. I quit when my Warlock hit 44 or 45 I think. Just takes too much time.

I don't understand why you are attacking this? Are you saying that I can't play a game that I know is completely fake?

I like fantasy games, specially neverwinter nights, playing as ranger/divine champion/weapon master. The story is nice and it is fun to hack monsters. It's also fun to create a power arifact and use it to make you immortal.

but later realized that the way games are made today is wrong--they eat a lot of time; they have something in them that makes them addictive. Sometimes, I felt that I am commiting time crime, imagine how many hours you can use to read the Bible instead of playing games. Imagine, making an excuse of "having no time", but being able to have entertainment. It set my mind to the world instead of looking at God, for instead of praying I think of the things I'm going to do later in the game.

As Christian, we are called to Godliness rather than worldliness and if possible self-abandonment. The End Times is near, when the master returns and see us on the computer table playing games and not working, what do you think would happen?

It might seem like a sermon, but I'm actually concerned, I felt that we are becoming slaves to this computer games. No? See if you can control yourself of not thinking and bothering it for a week, if you can, you have no problem. I'm refering to those who are victimes of it as I am one of them.

I'm not saying that one must abandon pleasure (though God would be pleased if we abandon it, so that we could invest an extra time on serving and growing in Him ) but rather, if it is causing you your relationship with God (not just the Sundays, but your spiritual growth and your self reflection time), take heed. I'm not forcing everyone, but I just want all of you to consider it.

Isaiah 32:3 "And the eyes of them that see shall not be dim, and the ears of them that hear shall hearken. "
