The tangent on one of the creation/evolution threads got me to remembering some of my favorite novels whose messages contrast with the Bible's. Some of my favorites are:
Joseph Heller- Catch-22 and Closing Time
John Steinbeck- East of Eden (based on the Bible, but varies substancially in message) and the Grapes of Wrath
Sherwood Anderson- Winesburg, Ohio
Joseph Conrad- Heart of Darkness and Lord Jim
Albert Camus- the Plague
Jack Kerouac- On the Road
Things Fall Apart- Chinua Achebe
Douglas Adams- Hitchhiker's Guide series
