Hello all,

Hunger is the prime instrument of revolutionaries...

I'm not an enviromentalist and I do not believe that carbon emmissions effect global warming - I've done an ample amount of research on the conversion of food into ethanol and other fuels for combustion engines - it is forcing up food prices dramatically...

Lately I thought about adopting a vegetarian lifestyle for health reasons - I discovered some shocking information that compounded what I already knew... those pushing the green agenda have a strong moral precedent and I believe that Christians can counter it. They are fighting for the ecology with the wrong information - we have the chance to do it with the correct information...

This is the pinnacle insanity and I hardly ever considered it...

* Over 1 billion people suffer from starvation and malnutrition on this planet; this number is about to dramatically increase - 40 million people die of starvation every year, most children; this number is about to dramatically increase...
* 30% of the world's grain production is fed to livestock.
* 72% of U.S. grain production is fed to livestock - with 1 billion people in the world in a state of starvation, the grain that we would feed cattle would easily eliminate the food shortages...
* we also hear talk about fresh water scarcity... 2464 gallons of water are needed to produce 1lb of beef - 29 gallons of water are needed to produce one lb of tomatoes.
* According to the journal of Soil and Water, one acre of land could produce 50,000 pounds of tomatoes, 40,000 pounds of potatoes, 30,000 pounds of carrots or just 250 pounds of beef.
* It takes 15 lbs of feed to get 1 lb of meat...
* nearly half the water consumed in the United States goes to growing feed for cattle or other livestock...
* about the conversion of South American rain forest to pasture land - 4 ounces of beef for every 55 square feet of forest that is destroyed.
* An acre of land growing oats produces 8 times the protein and 25 times the calories, if the oats are fed to humans rather than to cattle.
* An acre of land used for broccoli produces 10 times the protein, calories and niacin as an acre of land producing beef.

Their is a landslide of information on the inneficiency of meat production compared to plant production...

Now let's consider a few other facts...

* there is ample evidence that the current food shortages is result of biofuel production...
* "240 kilos [529 pounds] of maize [a corn variety] needed to fill one tank of a US Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) with biofuel - enough to feed a person for a year."
* a large portion of U.S. farmland has been converted to the production of biofuels...
* the U.S. currently has no corn or wheat reserves this year...

Who is responsible for this - I have a lot more facts on hand; this is where the revolution for the Church will begin... does anyone else have any information on this...

God bless,
Aaron

Hi Aaron~

WOW! At first your title was intriguing to say the least, however your post is very illuminating. May I ask where your information comes from?

I have been "close" to becoming a vegetarian for years, and I guess the whole green people, save our planet thing, has turned me off. Thinking, what good will it do to save a planet that is going to burn up? Thou I have grandkids that will be living in it after I'm dead~~so I drive a little car, and will soon be SO close to school and work I can ride my bike in the sunshine of my state.

Still there is something worshipful of "mother" earth in the green group reasoning, as you mentioned. So, I have not pursued vegetarianism much further other than for healthy purposes. I would really like to search your sources if I may Aaron, not ALL of them thou. To utilize them for the purposes you stated. Getting me and my fellow Christians greener, in this case veggier ( not as in couch thou) and less-SUV ( as in FEWER off-roadies and less bling) !!!

Keep us posted on these issue bro. And may our Savior bless you for it! :-D bonnie
