Has anyone had this? Oh my is it ever painful!!!! It's been going around BAD at my kids school and a bunch of girls on the ballteam have it. My 5 year old had it over Easter, and then my husband got it. The entire time he had it, he kept saying how he ached and his joints hurt. This was a few weeks ago, so I thought I had escaped it.

NOT!

I went ot get out of bed the day before yesterday and about fell to the floor. My joints HURT!! Even to move my fingers it's painful. And the rash is awful. It not only itches, but it burns. I've got it on my cheeks, arms, stomach knees and feet.

UGH! And there's NOTHING the doctors can do for it. If you've had it, how long did it last? The doctors said it can last up to 6 weeks. Courtney was over it in about a week, my husband had it for 2 weeks, but he only had the rash on his legs.

Here's info on it if you've never heard of it:

I've never heard of it, but it sounds painful. I'll be sure to keep you in prayer.

Thanks

It's going around BAD here in the schools. The doctors say that you're contagious BEFORE the rash shows up, therefore you don't know you have it until others have already been exposed. Steve and I are the only adults that we know that have gotten it. Our best friends son had it and they didn't catch it. Maybe it's because I'm exposed to it more being as I'm up at the school and now working with kids in softball.

Either way, it's not a fun virus! The joint pain is the worst. Motrin seems to help, but of course, that's only temporary. I don't want to keep taking it. (I hate taking medicine)

It went around in this area a couple of years ago, that was the first time I had ever heard of it.
Fortunately my kids didn't catch it so I dont know that much about it, but I hope you have a really speedy recovery!!

One of the little girls on my ball team....well, her mom has it now. I feel TERRIBLE because I'm sure she got it from me and Kailey. She's pragnant though and Fifth Disease in pregnant women can cause miscarriages. I will feel like it's all my fault if something happens to the baby. The bad thing about this virus is that you don't know you have it until you break out and by that time you are no longer contagious.

Please say a prayer for "Isha's mom" (I don't know her first name) and the baby.

how does taking mootrin help ? (sic) (mis-spellled for legal reasons).

Never heard of it, although they say that there's evidence that 40-60% of the adults can be shown they had it as a kid, even if they don't remember it. That goes to show that they had mild cases of it (as the article confirmed) and indicates to me a better immune system. If a family is that sick with it, I'd ask what's going on there to make them so susceptible to illness?

I've heard of a case already where a child died of "genetic" heart trouble, and then when they adopted a child the same thing happened. That indicates maybe a "family culture" of poor diet and/or other habits that contribute to this. I suppose it can happen in a community as well if everyone is similar and eats the same way.

Tell me, do you remember to put sunscreen on every time you go out in the sun?

I remember the 5th Disease. I had it in the 60's but this sounds much worse than what I remember as a child. Mine must have been a mild case because to me it was nothing more than an excuse to stay out of school.

Mild rash (not itchy) and runny nose is all that I remember. Highly infectious. Almost every body in my school got it.

I tried following the link, but it only led to their main page. Do you have a link to the article?

within a few years of sunscreen coming out, it was shown to increase skin cancer, not decrease it, by 15 to 18%. this makes sense because vitamin D is needed to fight cancer, and sunscreen diminishes the vitamin D available or produced in a body.
also note, sailors on the high seas, in bright sun much of the time, if they have a good diet, have less skin cancer than land-lubbers. (but their cancer increases also if they use sunscreen). since more money is made by selling sunscreen, this is often overlooked or not even disclosed.

Exactly, but you spoiled my surprise. Everyone here who really pays attention to what I say knows I'm adamantly against sunscreen (and advocate getting sunlight). Had I received an answer in the affirmative (yes we use sunscreen), I would likely say, "That's part of the problem." :rofl2 Seriously, vitamin D deficiency is one of the contributors to poor resistance. And again, for a whole family to come down with it that bad indicates to me something in their health habits may be making it worse, even if they think they are doing right. It would be interesting for a naturopath (or someone along that line) to do a study. Maybe it's just one or two crazy little things. Like I always quip, take the health and dietary advice out there from the mainline establishment and turn it around 180 degrees and you'll be just fine.

yep :) .... thank you, I didn't know or remember your previous posts/leaning/study.

(p.s. the 'study' was done. I don't know where. I don't know when. But it is simple. And 'findable'. And usually 'do-able'. )

curezone dot com used to be a very good resource. the fda forced them to tone it down/to comply with restrictive rules put in place to prevent people from finding out the truth. yes, watch out for 'snake-oil' types, but
there may still be dozens/hundreds of people who have recovered and they give their information there as well as they can.

(just in the time I typed this post, I forgot what thread I'm in and who posted..... oy! ... ... to be continued... ... ... )
