Just making a statement, but the point is in whom should we all fear? What if someone has fear. Where we going with this?
I use that verse a lot though.

The LORD is the stronghold of my life-- of whom should I be afraid?

On occasion i hear some say that back in the "old days" we didn't have to lock our houses.. what has happened to change that?
*edit: forgot something..
Psalm 118:6 The LORD is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?
Of course.:amenJust making sure that you all are on the same page with: For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Because in our experiences we have dealt with the same issues. But we have been in prayer each day and night, being thankful unto The Father/GOD, and his Son our Lord Jesus Christ.

Fear is the antithesis of faith. It is corrosive in its effects, even deadly. It seems that Timothy lacked confidence, was fearful. He was a young man placed in a position of authority and therefore had reason to fear, in his own mind but Paul is telling him otherwise.
1 Corinthians 16:10-11
And if Timothy comes, see that he may be with you without fear; for he does the work of the Lord, as I also do. Therefore let no one despise him. But send him on his journey in peace, that he may come to me; for I am waiting for him with the brethren.
I think he lacked confidence in his gifting
2 Timothy 1:6
Therefore I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands. And followed by your verse along with
2 Timothy 1:7-10
For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began, but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel,
So Paul is reminding Timothy of the following
The Holy Spirit is the One who gives us spiritual gifts and empowers us to use them. God’s Spirit does not impart fear or cowardice, but power, love, and a sound mind, or “self-control.” The Spirit imparts power for the various circumstances of ministry. The love the Spirit gives to us should be directed toward other individuals. Furthermore, as we use our spiritual gifts to build up the church, we should exercise self-control, using our abilities only at the appropriate times.
Of course it is true that we as children of God have nothing to fear
Romans 8:15-17
The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.” The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
When we realise that we have nothing to fear in our relationship with God as his kids that God loves us then the following should follow through.
1 John 4:18-21
There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
We love because he first loved us. Whoever claims to love God yet hates a brother or sister is a liar. For whoever does not love their brother and sister, whom they have seen, cannot love God, whom they have not seen. And he has given us this command: Anyone who loves God must also love their brother and sister.
So to me when we realise that God loves us through the testimony of the Holy Spirit and that we are his children any fear of punishment should shrink back. As love drives our fear that should release us to love others. If we love God we must love others. We do this by walking in the gifts that we have been given, whether it be like Timothy by the laying on of hands, whether it be praying for them, loving them, accepting people as they are etc.
My 2 cents worth
Who among us has not felt fear? We may fear the unknown. We may fear a situation, an unfamiliar place or even a person. What missionary has not felt apprehension when facing a new door or sharing a testimony in a hostile environment? What Latter-day Saint, when facing a new calling, does not feel anxious concern at the thought of what lies ahead? What if someone has fear. Where we going with this?
I use that verse a lot though.
Here's How You Can Defeat Discouragement
William F Dankenbring
The Spirit of God is NOT the Spirit of discouragement, moodiness, and negative feelings! "But the fruit of the Spirit is" — what? Notice it! — "LOVE, IOU, peace, longsuffering [patience), gentleness, goodness, FAITH, meekness, temperance [or, self-control]: against such there is no law" (Gal. 5:22-23).
Did you read anything there about "Sorrow, guilt, depression, moodiness, sulkiness, negative feelings" or "discouragement, despair and hopelessness"?? Did you read anything about God's Spirit being the Spirit of a "what's-the-use, who cares?" attitude?
Of course NOT!
It is the Spirit of LOVE, JOY, FAITH — the positive emotions!
Notice what Paul wrote Timothy — "Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. For God hath not given us the spirit of FEAR; but of POWER, and of LOVE, and of a sound mind" (II Tim. 1:6-7).
A SOUND mind is not plagued by fear complexes, phobias, negative attitudes. It is HOPEFUL of the future! God's Spirit gives a sound mind. It is the Spirit of love.
God says, "There is NO FEAR in love; but perfect love [imparted by the Holy Spirit) casteth OUT fear: because fear hath torment" (I John 4:18). The Holy Spirit of God CASTS OUT such negative feelings as fear, worry, moodiness, faithlessness, discouragement. It replaces them with real love, JOY, faith — brimful confidence in God, and supreme HOPE in His Word and promises!
God's Spirit imparts POWER to overcome negative discouragement! Before its immense power, such minute, weakling attitudes and moods scamper like thousands of jackrabbits before a tornado. They don't stand a CHANCE!
The Holy Spirit will impart that power to YOU, if you "stir it up," as Paul told Timothy. But you must draw close to God, and USE His Spirit according to His will, if you wish to be FILLED with it! You must rekindle it, and make full use of it — not let it die out. It is SPIRITUAL POWER!

I'd suggest selective reading is in play in that one sided sight:
Romans 9
1 I say the truth in Christ, I lie not, my conscience also bearing me witness in the Holy Ghost,
2 That I have great heaviness and continual sorrow in my heart.
