Christian Children's Fund turned down a donation from Gen Con when they found out the money came from sales of Dungeons and Dragons Games. Gary Gygax, who created D&D was a regular donor and the auction was done to support his favorite charity in honor of his death.

Idk, if you saw last years video game awards it might help some understand a bit more. Samuel L. Jackson had a blast cussing his share and the envelopes for the winning games were carried out by women who wore nothing but paint.

I realize money is just as green no matter who it's from, but Abraham also refused to take gifts because he didn't want to be questionable before others.

Gen-con is a pen and paper based gaming convention, it has nothing to do with Spiketv or video games.

This is not true. It was Gen Con who decided not to give the proceeds to CCF.

In choosing the charity for 2008, Gen Con had heard through several channels, including a close friend of Gary’s family, that Christian Children’s Fund (CCF) was one of Gary’s favored charities. Gen Con contacted CCF about our intentions and asked for a logo and some promotional materials that we could use on our website. We were informed by a person at CCF that they would not be able to provide us with these materials, apparently due to our association with D&D. We were not comfortable with this position, considering Gary’s role as co-founder of D&D, and founder of Gen Con, and therefore we decided to pick a different charity.

We informed the Gygax family of our decision and the reason behind it, and asked if there was another charity they would like us to consider. Fisher House was suggested, as it too was a favored charity of Gary’s. Considering the outstanding services this charity provides to service members, veterans, and their families, we knew Fisher House would be a great charity for Gen Con to support. We later found out that we had been misinformed as to CCF’s position in regards to D&D and Gen Con, but by then we had already chosen Fisher House as our charity, and announcements and promotions were already made and in the works, such that it would not have been possible to change charities at that point.

To be clear, Gen Con made the decision not to donate to CCF; at no time did CCF refuse to take charity money from Gen Con. Gen Con chooses a show charity long before Gen Con Indy 2008 ever takes place.

Please, as Christians, we should resist the urge to propagate rumors and instead, do the research that leads to the truth.

This is almost as bad. I am a Christian I play D&D and I am not the only one. There are many people I go to church with that play D&D including a very good friend of mine from whom I got the story and he and his wife are not only Christians that play D&D, but they own a table top game store.

Thank you Joshua for pointing that out. CCF is not the culprit in this case.

Case closed. 8-)

Your missing my point about how some "christians" have a unwarranted prejudice against people that play D&D.

Hi Misfit,

No, I'm not missing your point. Your point was clear in the very first post. You specifically targeted (erroneously) the CCF. If you care to redraw the line and make this a more broad stroke argument, you may start a thread on how unfair some Christians and Christians groups are for their judgments towards D&D.

You have my blessings. :D I also resent that you say "christians" in quotes and with a small "c" as though anyone saying they are Christian and object to D&D isn't really a Christian. To decide who is and isn't Christian based on their view of a controversial game, isn't very Christ-like. No need to be as "judgmental" as those you are attempting to point out.

Not all that claim to be christian are. I did not "target" CCF they happened to be in the story a buddy sent me if it was in error it was not my fault. And tell me what difference is it if I use a "c" vs. a "C"?

D&D is contraversal. I do agree though that Misfit, even if it seems he targeted CCF, may have more or less been upset with the idea of Christians being judgemental in terms of a contraversal game and deciding not to take someone's money on account of it.

Again though....these are just my thoughts. I do not mean to ruffle any feathers or anything. It sort of irks me as well...the idea that any one believer might reject another's money over something contraversal like a game.

I mean...I could understand if it were some abortion clinic or movement that was known to persecute Christians or the like....but think sometimes we as Christians can be a bit judgemental to the point of sheer ugliness....
