Get ready for $10 oil

While oil prices that low would help to financially undermine ISIS and the black market, it would also play havoc with US oil markets.

It is a curious consideration: low oil prices....yet.... gasoline prices in my state are increasing.

Everybody I know loves inexpensive fuel. Deflation is such a blessing for shoppers. Lot's hope fuel deflation continues, and CPI items in general also become more affordable (CPI deflation).

America has changed, the world has changed, when I was little like around 1962 or 63 I heard a conversation with my dad and a friend of his. His friend was angry because he had to pay 25 or 50 cents for a gallon of gas, it was one of those prices. Now because the cost of living has went up 500 fold, I guess it would affect us, because at that time, I would got to the store and a get a loaf of bread for 10 cents a pack of smokes for my dad was about 19 cents DC Comics was 10 cents, food shopping was 2 overflowing shopping carts for 20, 30 or 50 bucks or much less. Now 50 bucks worth of food at PathMark will get you next to nothing. I use to go to the movies for 15 cents then it went up to 20 cents then 25 cents then 50 cents. I was partly raised in Atlantic City the beach was on the other side of the street and everything was dirt cheap compared to today. My parents thought things were high then because not many people made a lot of money. But if we could bring those prices back after a while America would thrive again, reason because more people could buy into the economy.

If prices were turned back like that, Lewis , far too many businesses would have to close. Ink alone for a DC Comics would cost more than 10-cents, not to mention paper, etc. Unfortunately, we can't turn prices back.

I can remember 25-cent gallons of gasoline. Along with gas wars between competing gas stations. Of course, those were all full-service stations at the time. Didn't have to be concerned with pumping gas into my car. And the attendant would check the oil and other fluids under the hood, wash & squeegee the windows, even check air pressure in the tires. (I avoided self-service stations for as long as I could!)

Yes you are right the economy would fall because we have come to far. And yes I avoided the self serve places as well for as long as I could. Now across the bridge in New Jersey it is still mostly full service.

The last time I traveled through Oregon, everything was full service.

The first time I drove through that state, I had to stop for gasoline. Naturally, trained as I was, I hopped out of the car to pump gas. The attendant hurried over to me, almost frantically, that it was state law for him to deal with pumping the gas. Talk about a treat!

Some stations in my area have signs posted at the pumps that if disabled people need assistance, to honk & someone would be willing to help. That's a really nice offer for any who need the help.

In many ways, I do as well, Lewis.

What I think I miss most: people actually communicated with one another. Of course, I'm talking about the days when cell phones didn't exist....no answering machines or caller ID.

As productivity improves, prices should go naturally lower. This actually happened during the first 100 years of our country, when we had a gold standard. The average person's standard of living thus gradually improved. Businesses did just fine, as our country gradually turned into a great economic world power during the period.

We should go back to a gold standard. That's how our ancestors protected themselves from inflation. It worked for them,.

the reason both the peoples republic of organia and new jersey is because of state laws. my county has one station left that is full serve. it costs 30 cents more a gallon to get that service.
