Somewhere I ran across this wonderful sentence: God does not recruit heroes. No, he doesn’t. Not many mighty are called, not many noble, not many powerful, not many great as the world counts greatness. God doesn’t go for the big names to populate heaven. He takes ordinary folks and then does extraordinary things through them. But even that isn’t the full story. When God wants to recruit some front line soldiers for his army, he goes into the enemy camp and rounds up a handful of the orneriest, meanest, toughest, roughest, wildest looking sinners he can find. Then he draws them to Christ, saves them, justifies them, converts them, sanctifies them, cleans them up, fixes them up, dresses them up, and then he sends them out to do battle in the service of the King of Kings.

That’s the point Paul makes in Romans 5:6-9 when he says that we were “powerless,” “ungodly,” “sinners,” and even “God’s enemies.” But even so, Christ died for us that he might reconcile us to God. Thus does God turn his enemies into his friends.

Food for thought.

Even though I was not like Paul in action I was like Paul, an enemy of God.

What strikes me in Ray's words is that God cleans them up, fixes them up and dresses them up. This is dear to my heart. My wife and I have always had a passion to be a doctor and nurse in the army of God. That's our passion, that's where we want to be full time. Be used to mend broken, hurt, sick people so that they can go and live life for God. Not sure we have got there yet and we are still learning, like any professional medic has to.

When I think about it, when a person is sick they need a doctor, if something happens that is serious an ambulance will be called on. Who drives the ambulance, who is the ultimate doctor, who heals the broken hearted, who treats a broken reed, who heals the shattered emotional person, the ultimate doctor and he is Jesus.

Jesus recruits medics and trains them. That's you and me folks. It's not someone else's job it's YOU AND ME.

Mark 2:17

When Jesus heard it, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”

1 John 2:6
He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked."

Luke 6:40
A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone who is perfectly trained will be like his teacher.

John 13:34
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another.

Food for thought.
