Hello veteran and shilo,
Luke's account contradicts the prophets Isaiah, Joel, Zechariah and John. If your understanding of Luke's account is correct, how do you explain:
1. Isaiah gives an account where there will be "survivors" on Mount Zion in Jerusalem. In this account God protects this group with "a cloud of smoke by day and a glow of flaming fire by night." When did God protect Jerusalem with a column of smoke and fire, just as He protected Israel in the wilderness?
Isaiah 4:2 In that day the Branch of the LORD will be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the land will be the pride and glory of the survivors in Israel. 3 Those who are left in Zion, who remain in Jerusalem, will be called holy, all who are recorded among the living in Jerusalem. 4 The Lord will wash away the filth of the women of Zion; he will cleanse the bloodstains from Jerusalem by a spirit of judgment and a spirit of fire. 5 Then the LORD will create over all of Mount Zion and over those who assemble there a cloud of smoke by day and a glow of flaming fire by night; over all the glory will be a canopy. 6 It will be a shelter and shade from the heat of the day, and a refuge and hiding place from the storm and rain.
2. The prophet Joel states that there will be "survivors whom the LORD calls" on Mount Zion in Jerusalem. Yes, this account is at the timing of "the day of the LORD," however, how and when do you think these survivors got there? Do you think that they were all in hiding around the world, then a day or so before the DOTL they purchased plane tickets (without the mark-of-the-beast) and fly into Jerusalem?
Joel 2: 30 I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and billows of smoke. 31 The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the LORD. 32 And everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved; for on Mount Zion and in Jerusalem there will be deliverance, as the LORD has said, among the survivors whom the LORD calls.
3. Zechariah provides an account where Christ sets foot on the mount of Olives and creates an earthquake which splits the old city of Jerusalem down the middle. Zechariah's account provides survival instructions to those remaining in Jerusalem at that time. Who are these remaining individuals, how and when did they get there?
Zechariah 14:1 A day of the LORD is coming when your plunder will be divided among you. 2 I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem to fight against it; the city will be captured, the houses ransacked, and the women raped. Half of the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people will not be taken from the city. 3 Then the LORD will go out and fight against those nations, as he fights in the day of battle. 4 On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south. 5 You will flee by my mountain valley, for it will extend to Azel. You will flee as you fled from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the LORD my God will come, and all the holy ones with him.
4. John was told to count the number of "worshipers" in the future temple (which should be located in the old city Jerusalem) and to exclude the rest of the "holy city" for the 42 months of the GT. If these worshipers aren't Christian, why bother counting them?
Revelation 11:1I was given a reed like a measuring rod and was told, "Go and measure the temple of God and the altar, and count the worshipers there. 2But exclude the outer court; do not measure it, because it has been given to the Gentiles. They will trample on the holy city for 42 months.
5. And what about the two witnesses? Aren't they going to be in Jerusalem for the 1260 days of the GT?
Revelation 11: 3And I will give power to my two witnesses, and they will prophesy for 1,260 days, clothed in sackcloth."
