I remember the good ol' days when new technology didn't become obsolete until after I was actually able use it.

It's going to be sketchy for a while yet. Sure lab tests are showing great results... But real world is another thing.

Also there has to be a way of bringing communication to the lights AND a way to decode the light. Both are cost prohibitive. $3,000 for one decoder plus twice that for installation and triple for programming... Never mind the cost of cabling.

Don't expect it soon.

Keep in mind light needs unobstructed line-of-sight transfer. WIFI are radio waves and is not hindered by that. Radio waves go through anything -- your wall, your furniture, a window, and even a ghost without fear or much attenuation. Actually, Objects do attenuate it somewhat, but negligible compared to visible light. WIFI's limits, as with any radio communication, is basically limited by distance (energy dispersion because WIFI is low power), sometimes objects such as the earth itself.
