An awesome song musically, vocally, etc. but honestly I don't make an ounce of connection with God spiritually through it.
What about you?

Jethro,
The words might help those reading along.
I find it to be very beautiful.

You call me out upon the waters
The great unknown where feet may fail
And there I find You in the mystery
In oceans deep
My faith will stand

And I will call upon Your name
And keep my eyes above the waves
When oceans rise
My soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours and You are mine

Your grace abounds in deepest waters
Your sovereign hand
Will be my guide
Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me
You've never failed and You won't start now

So I will call upon Your name
And keep my eyes above the waves
When oceans rise
My soul will rest in Your embrace
For I am Yours and You are mine

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior

Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders
Let me walk upon the waters
Wherever You would call me
Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander
And my faith will be made stronger
In the presence of my Savior

Yeah

Oh Jesus yeah, my God

I will call upon Your Name
Keep my eyes above the waves
My soul will rest in Your embrace
I am Yours and You are mine

I used to listen to United before they were popular over here. They had some of the richest song lyrics I had ever heard before.

If I was a guessing man, I'd say they took this song to a higher level of metaphoric lyrics than what we are used to in modern day Christian music.

Jethro,
The words might help those reading along.
I guess you're not following what I'm asking. It has no anointing on it for me. Like the Dobie Brothers singing "Jesus is Just Alright"--so what, it's a song about Jesus. It's fun, listenable, has good lyrics, and rocks out, but it's hardly an instrument of worship through which God draws his church into spiritual worship of Him. God's anointing is not on it. He does not inhabit it when people sing it. Sorry, Doob's.

The point being, just because Oceans is a song about Jesus, and is an outstanding, good song musically, doesn't mean it's an anointed worship song that God inhabits when his people sing it and that he gave it for that purpose. That's how I personally feel about Oceans. It seems to be a song sung for the sake of it being a good song, attractive to the personal tastes musically speaking of young people today, about God but which has no anointing from God on it. Not saying God couldn't use it to do that for some isolated purpose somewhere in the life of a person. I'm just saying it seems to not be an anointed song that God has given the church to worship him through....like the Revelation Song is, or other great songs of the church are.

Jethro
Personally, I don't like this type of music.
It puts me to sleep.

I like the words a lot. I agree with you that it does not have the annointing.

For that I like How Great Thou Art or something like This Blood.
If there's a gospel choir in my area, I'll go. I also like to go because they mingle after the concert and I get to be with born again Christian that I can identify with.

Most of the better songs are the old ones.

I'm surprised you like the music, but you know more than I do...

The gal has some of the most outstanding vocals by anyone's measure. And it has a pleasing melody. Even good lyrics as you point out. And I like acoustic guitar music. But as I'm saying, that doesn't make a good worship song alone. It has to have God's anointing on it. It does not, IMO.

I was curious what other people thought about that. You agreed with me that it does not. What do some of you other folks think?

For comparison...
Melts my soul and brings me into the presence of God virtually every time I hear it. We'll probably be signing it before the throne in the age to come.

Ever actually listen to her testimony? Raised atheist.I'm not saying all will like it,buy the beat ,melody of be thou my vision is a great crusader song.Rebecca sr James sang it and it came across as such.I know that it wasnt

I guess I'm stumped as to how to know if God's anointing is on a song. Is it based on something I should feel?

Nathan,
My feeling is this:

We don't depend on feelings as to our belief or love or trust in God. It's just something that we know and accept.

But you know how music is...it does create feelings in us.
Some Christian songs bring me to tears.
Some make me feel happy.
I watched a Swaggart service once where a song I love was being sung. Everybody loves it so much, they always sing it twice.
At the end, some of the people were going up to the altar and getting on their knees, that's how powerful it was.

So, yes, I think a good Christian song should elicit a response.
