Hello all & God bless you,

May I ask for guidance with my lovely foster son. He's a 16 year old name is Sean, though he goes by Snowy, who has had a very hard life & has a lot from his rough lifestyle.

Since my husband died after my 4 children flew the nest, I felt called to foster care. Nearly a year ago I took in Sean - a kind, generous, charitable, & keenly intelligent boy for his age. He has a strong sense of social justice &, despite his disadvantages, he's often in the top third in his class.

He is the middle child of 5 & his mother has unfortunately passed of an overdose

However, being a socially conservative house hold, the promiscuous sexual activity with both sexes, alchohol & drug indulgences, anarchist communist politics, street activities, & late nights are difficult & have been somewhat of a culture shock - reinforced by his continued association with social circles before I knew

Finding beer bottle caps, cigarette butts, condoms, & more in the laundry have never been issues I've faced. I have spoken to him about my concerns & though he, out of respect, has assured that he isn't sexually active or consuming drugs or alchohol in my house, I know he is elsewhere.

Lastly, I want to say that he is good at heart & that he does respect me despite his antagonism to any authority. He has described that he used to sustain himself with dumpster diving & shop lifting (his lean build would suggest he grew up underfed), trespassing on sites to squat for shelter, & can even point out different graffiti tags locally. He even has a self made anti policing tattoo. However, he respects my authority in my house & is thankful as this is the longest he's stayed in one place since he turned 10.

Please pray for this caring & bright but rough & tough young man. I strongly feel God has called me to foster care, & I to enjoy this experience much of the time, but never have I ever had such a contrast of lifestyle.

He's someone who has gone through a lot of trauma & though he's resistant to the teachings of Jesus, he's a good lad & I pray that the wrecklessness of youth or the circumstances of birth don't hold him back as someone who has so much potential.

God bless!

If he doesn't believe in Jesus, Jesus is proven to be a historical figure. And 2000 years later we ate all still talking about him. He must have been important. secular scholars who also agree. Also, Christianity has the most antiquities in the world. Masoretic text, historical documents, thousands of manuscripts, scrolls ( not just like dead sea scrolls of 1947 ish), but more a fragments (puzzle pieces), codex, 53 biblical people recognized by secular scholars. There are only spelling errors and with thousands of scrolls and manuscripts it is easy to compare and know what words they imply. There is so much more. Maybe he doesn't know any Christians his age. A Christian youth group could help. Depending on that group it could make him or break him. Sometimes church is so boring and such a generational gap it is difficult to relate with others. He really needs Christian friends. There are no contradictions in the bible. Everything has answers. It's a miracle we have what we have, but youth don't understand that. Not all the bible is meant to be literal. People of science threaten youth. They try to act like they know everything. Scientists change their views all the time and they don't always agree. There are Christian scientists. We all have purpose it's just that science is put into the wrong hands. Praying it gets better. How old is he?

I wonder what he wants his future to be. If he thinks about going to college ect. What he is good at and his goals in life. He's just trying to feel the void. Maybe he has a low self esteem and not motivated. Maybe he struggles with depression and belonging. Public school is rough. I hated public school. What schooling does he have...that makes a difference.

I think the pursuit of freedoms that are described are often a rejection of a false perception of conservative, Christian lifestyle and principles. What's portrayed in the media of Christians is not flattering. Being a positive and open minded example is the best opening you can provide him to consider change. Opportunities for discussion of specific topics will naturally arise and he can be coached one conversation at a time. It would seem initially the goal is to dismantle any preconceived notions that a moral lifestyle is any less satisfying or not an exercise of personal choice as compared to the alternatives. If the crowd he comes from is anything like people I've known before, they pride themselves on being independent thinkers, on not following the mainstream. The funny thing is... whats mainstream is all a matter of perspective. Hope this helps.

I do know there are friends of his who are Christian. A friend of his is an Orthadox Palestinian from a youth group of the Australian Communist Party. Another is an Irish descended colleague with a strong Catholic Republican streak who was involved with unionising their workplace. So he's open to having Christian friends, but their binding interest tends to be more worldly causes.

I'm not good with the arguing side of things, OT could be on economics, politics, or history but he's a bookish kid. When Jesus came up in conversation, that he wasn't a myth, he shrugged saying that "it's not remarkable to me that a Rabbi named Yeshua was alive in the Eastern Roman Empire, probably scores of them really"

He's 16

I think that it's due to him having to survive day to day when on the streets, but he doesn't have much ambition or future planning for himself. If he has an artistic passion, it would be visual arts which he has usually expressed via graffiti.

Thanks for your input

I think a lot of his choices is also due to what he had to do to survive. He would squat to find shelter so finds laws against trespass an immoral thing as it stops people from finding shelter where is already exists. He had survived through shoplifting & dumpster diving. People starve while an excess of food is wasted so he considers those property laws to be immoral. He hates the police because, as he saw it, they're a force that instead of keeping him safe, pursued him to defend what he sees are unjust systems for just surviving.

I asked him what a good world would be. He answered that it would be one where every flag was burned & all boarders erased, that each to do one's will should be the whole of the law. That not one being that is blessed with life & cursed to die should be subject to any kingdom in this world.

He, more than many, knows an unjust world. As a result, he's an anarchist.

That's so 😔 sad. I pray for him. He needs a lot of healing from his trauma . Kids in their younger years absorbs so much in their minds that it really shapes how they see the world. I pray he gives his life to Jesus and not a life of things in this world. He seems numb to me, but that happens when your burnt out and have been through the ringer time and time again. Just keep showing him a good example. Life is so hard and down deep people pay attention to how people make them feel. Just seeing him as a person and individual. We may not think we are doing much, but actions effect others and watching how you live is a planted seed. It's really sad the life he is living, but we can't fix people. We can only work on ourselves. Just knowing he can go to you with stuff by being there for him. We may not see change, but just like the saying grandma's prayers helped people. Sometimes their grandma's never got to see the change, but they came around by remembering that after they passed away. Don't give up. America has really lost focus on Christianity. I went the longest time not even knowing Jesus was a historical person that really walked this earth. People don't realize the power of that. People just don't believe the bible is inspired and believe it was changed. They don't realize all the evidence behind it. Maybe one can't prove, but they can't unproven. 2000 yrs is a long time and that is not counting all biblical years. He was much more than a simple teacher. That is obvious, but people are really pushing the limits now. Maybe Jesus is coming soon. Not all Christians have been a good witness or Christian. It's ni wonder people don't want to talk about Jesus because of how people just go out to their down town yelling at everyone to repent. It does more damage than good and usually those people are self righteous. All it does is turn people off and make people mad.

Thank you for such a supporting message!

He does carry traumas, you come to understand them well, but that he's so happy-go-lucky even after all that is a testament to him. Though he's cheeky, I've never known him to be unkind or self pitying.

I hope the thorns he was sown amongst don't strangle him as he grows.
