The error here, is to imagine all of that helium was there at the beginning. So long as we have uranium and thorium in the Earth, they will continue to break down and produce new helium. What we're observing is the equilibrium point between generation of new helium, and the off-gassing of helium into the atmosphere.

I'm surprised that no one at AIG realizes this.
